We know that Google recently working on a search ranking penalty for sites that are over-optimized or overly SEO'ed.

Today i am searching on How to remove bad Backlinks
and get this Answers:

1- send request to the website owner to remove your link and wait for the approval.

2- if you have made the link through registering an account, remove the links from the account or remove the account itself.

3- you can block the link or IP for getting further links from that website.

4- Login webmaster tool> click on site configuration>Crawler access>Remove Url>paste that Url

5- You can create a Robots.txt file that tells bots not to scan the links

Asking your Help to add your valuable comments to Help Each other and Building this Thread as a good Resource for them who are suffering a lot for Over optimization.

Thanks In Advance

Question - How do you find the links you're being penalized for in the first place?

reciprocal Links, Poor/bad links are the causes to get SERP Ranking Downtrend.

Depending on the number of links, it will be very hard to remove links on other peoples' sites.

And you don't know which links are causing the penalty so this is very hard to do.

This is only true if you believe in negative SEO...

Yeah
No way to find for which the site are getting penalty.
But we can Predict slightly In this way
Checking the Backlinks of the mother site and then checking page Authority of those backlinks

hmm, but i think you will need all kind of backlink to look its natural. removing all no pr or no follow backlink ( may be you saying them bad, if not forgive me) can be cause the same problem you are talking, working for make your seo more natural is better then wasting time to removing backlink,
its just my personal comment.

But Search Engines start giving values on the Nofollow links.
Authority Pages are depends on : inbounds links, outbound links, Age of the page etc
I think removing the irreverent links will step UP the site in SERP ranking
and yes back links should be looks natural as you said.
But all links should be comes from relevant sites
My personal Opinion
Those Who are facing problem for overoptimization should try to remove those irreverent links (like irreverent and common blog comments, Forum posts, Profile created etc)
site should get link from high Authority sites and must be relevant to the mother site No matter are they ******** or nofollow

Yeah its a common problem. Because most of the SEO companies just outsource the Link building service so they don't actually know what they are doing. and ultimately after a certain time the site got penalized. So these tips will help them to get rid :)

Thats true
but one should outsource his work with proper Guidance. He Must have the knowledge what is Good and what is Bad in link building . If he have no time to do this he can hire a Virtual Assistant as a Project Manager who is good in SEO .
One must not depend on only outsourcing those work and involve himself in another Work.
It is his business and he should take care of this with proper Way (Guidance)

My site was penalized by optimized anchor. Someone backlinks are Blog Comments...Can i delete this backlinks with Webmaster tools??

Tracing the links being penalized is the main thing. If there is any tool for that, it will be saving time for next task.

If I was penalized for over optimization of inbound links, I would leave them all and make a lot of new generic links that say click here, original article, more info, etc. Read extrawinners thread about it. If that doesn't work, then I would try to fix the bad links. Too much work to go back and try to find all your links. This is just my opinion. hth

I agree with this. In addition to generic words, you should also add links using lont-tail keywords that relates to your main keyword. This way it looks more natural and more diversified.

just a guess, but i think any penalties would come from onpage over optimization rather than off page - otherwise i could buy 10 xrumer blasts from fiverr to destroy my competitors.

+1 to jennym

If you got penalized for "having too many links with your keywords" (sorry, I don't remember the exact name for that filter), you should add some anchor diversity by creating links with "click here" and similar natural keywords.
