Hashtags vs No Hashtags

I’ve been reading that insta’s algorithm is favouring no hashtag posts so I put it to the test this week and can see that the theory is BS.

3 average videos all smashed it with hashtags and 3 videos (that had previously gone viral on FB) without hashtags have done so poorly. All videos were posted at the same time each day, day1 average/day2 viral and repeat.

So what am I missing? Is there a strategy to no hashtags?

For me I see a very little increase in engagement when using hashtags between not using them (when using small hashtags). Trying to rank on big hashtags for small accounts is very difficult. Using hashtags also can harm your account. It increases the chance of a shadowban.

So thats why i dont use hashtags when growing smaller accounts. I would just stick to engagement groups, s4s, etc.

Where did you hear that using hastags gets you shadowbanned? That makes no sense. thats what the platform is known for.
 
It’s night and day difference for me. Also some things actually go viral for me with them.

Sorry let me clarify. Using 30 hashtags per post could get you shadowbanned. Using the same hashtags over and over can get you shadowbanned. Basically if you abuse the hashtag feature, you can potentially get shadowbanned.

Also if you have a small account, it's very difficult to rank on hashtags so I wouldn't reccomend it until you have a larger account.

Yeah that’s very much the same for me. I also hit the explore page every time with hashtags.
 
Hello I’ve been comparing my results lately & notice that the last 6 images that I’ve posted with hashtags (30 hashtags) brought in at least 30% of the traffic on average for me.

Is this shadowban for using 30 hashtags true? I’m going to limit myself now. Aha

You may get banned when using a lot of hashtags this happened to me it's like you overuse hashtags
 
Why would they invent hashtags if they don't favor them? It makes no sense. Stay out of the banned hashtags and don't use more than 30 per post and rotate them. Don't use same hashtags in the exact same order since that would trigger some alarms on their algorithm

That's true, that was my mistakes which caused the closure of my account
 
Use the hashtags. It's just another 30 channels/opportunities for new potentials to engage with your content.

I developed a new hashtag strategy where I am consistently hitting the top 9 for 20/30 hashtags. I'm thinking about building a application for this. If there are any backend developers out there who want to partner up, let me know. I can do all the frontend, uxui, and such.

Interestingly enough, on my latest no hashtag post, I’ve still managed to get 20% of my Reach from the Explore page and with 41% of Reach from users not following me.
