Has it Begun? Google AI creates buzz

Thank you captain obvious.

Were you one of the geniuses that volunteered to act as a catalyst and used GPT to no end to promote his blogs thinking such a game changing tool by a tech monopoly would come without any costs? Or one of the cynics that avoided what’d prove to be a detriment to a free market and open source productivities when it completely unfolds?

I won't bother responding to the humorous attacks, but, since you've stated something that's just plain incorrect, as the resident most woke AI billionaire with a great bod, I have to do my duty and correct you. </becker>

If it wasn't for OpenAI the open source AI community wouldn't be anywhere near as advanced as they are.

What OpenAI didn't anticipate was that you don't need access to the weights of a fine tuned model in order to realize the benefits of that fine tuned model. You only need to access it in inference mode.

So after Facebook's LLaMA was leaked the open source community was able to leverage OpenAI's models to create further rapid advancements that wouldn't have been possible with it.

OpenAI spent millions on instruct fine tuning davinci-001 to get 2 then 3.

Alpaca did it with a spend of a few hundred $ by prompting davinci-003.

That let to quantization being solved - https://github.com/ggerganov/llama.cpp

Scaling problem solved by open source community: https://github.com/tloen/alpaca-lora

LoRA: https://arxiv.org/abs/2106.09685

The open source community is literally STEAMING AHEAD because of the work of OpenAI. Without it, it would NOT have been possible because the data wouldn't exist. All they needed was LLaMa, a good solid base LLM.

This is why Google have come out saying there is no moat for them or OpenAI - https://simonwillison.net/2023/May/4/no-moat/

So, hence, why it's really hilarious that you make the statement that OpenAI has hindered the free market and open source community's productiveness. It's done the EXACT opposite. It's accelerated it a decade ahead.

Good thinking, if they do implement that i am going to forcefully with script send them millions of searches per minute with captcha breaker so that each of them goes through.
Count me in.
Time to put my 3090ti GPU to a good cause to bring the greedy fucks at Google down.

I've seen this coming for years, long before this AI Saga.

About 2 years back, I started creating a community around a brand, my brand.

Fast forward, on average, I get 50k unique hits on my blog, mostly from newsletter traffic and Social Media - earnings are around 20-25k/month. For some is not a huge number, but for me is more than enough.

From the G search engine point of view, I don't give a sh*t. I don't care about organic traffic or writing with SEO in mind. In fact, if you analyze the articles I wrote you'll laugh - they really suck in terms of SEO "best practices".

I realized long ago to not rely on organic traffic, so today, I am safe from this madness and possibly, future hell.
This.
This is the reason I'm investing more than half of my allocated time to growing the social media accounts of my blogs.

Can never trust these fuckers at Google.

Funny thing is : Google's CEO is from India who're known for being leading simple humble lives free of greed.
Then there's Pichai, who'd sell his mom to the aliens to earn some extra cash. Scum on Earth.

Will seo die maybe, but will seo strategically fail nope one will have to create multiple blogs, slowly grow them, backlinks will yet matter to reach whatever remains of the first page so key here is make more blogs keep minimum 6 month see if it’s picking up or move in to next.

It will have some impact, not sure how much.

However, this is a lot like the search snippet, with a more direct answer to the search query. Google is still showing search results look:

I am not sure what will happen to SEO in the far future, but for now SEO is not going anywhere. Where do you think AI gets its information from? if blogs have no incentive to write any more content then the AI fails, it becomes outdated. In other words, your writing is the source for powering the AI. Google is not going to let the source die.

If it ever comes to a point where publishers get really fucked over and the clicks disappear or go down really bad, then I believe there will be legislation barring AI from scraping your content to generate answers. It is only logical, isn't it?

A machine replacing a human is different because it is not using the human to do its job. Generative AI is not the same use case since it is consuming directly from the source, without the source it is nothing. Hence, the source needs to always exist.

Just like a sperm cell needs an ovum or an egg. There is no life without either.

OK, lets say that Google implementation will be like you say. I have 2 questions
1) From where will they get data for that AI snapshot in the future, if there is no money motivation for publishers to produce data? Now its easy
2) What procesing power will be needed to switch the search to that AI snapshot? And what will be the speed from the moment the user imputs till he gets the answer? We are now penalized for slow user experience if the page is slow as the user is used to get the answer fast.
I am not part of Google so I have no answers to your questions. Here is an article written by someone who has tested the new Google, read it so you will understand what I am talking about: https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/10/23717120/google-search-ai-results-generated-experience-io

1. t is a more powerful search snippet for desktop results.
2. Mobile results it takes up the entire view once a search query is put in, well so do the current product ads and I still get clicks on my best xxx articles.

I think we are going to be okay, at least for now.

The impact will be big because if you look at the screen shot, there are 5 paragraphs in the AI snapshot, the screenshot is from a PC, imagine how it will look on a mobile phone. The AI snapshot will eat up almost all of the screen of your phone. The AI snapshot is an amalgamation of the best answers to the query from the web so there is a very big chance that users will be satisfied with the answer they get from the AI snapshot and would not look father than that.

I think ai will kill most of the Internet.

The more advance ai get the easier all socail / afflicate marketers get ban.

Accounts soon will be Impossable to get no matter what your into.

Secuity will be so tight 1 account to all services will mean 1 account.

Anti browser detect won't mean nothink in the end and When that happens we are really in crap.

If ai can re program it self aginst fingerprint online marketing will go dead.

Yes there be other ways to earn hopefully but will cost a small fortune to be a marketer.

That the new change comming wait and see.

AI aginst ai, avarage user finished, only money makers hanging In there.

Accounts will cost a fortune and services to maintain marketing will be heavy money.

Welcome to the shitty digital world comming very soon no cash just digital currency.

The new Google ai browser design is the new way of life.

Google complete ai controlled and if you ant on the list with payed indexing, you won't get seen fullstop, Google not looking at the people info they got there ai to provide there content that stored from other sourse,
They don't need indexed websites to survive like old times.

There building and getting content feeds from elsewhere.

This is a whole life reset wait and see

You think I am joking, keep this post of mine open it before Xmas then re read it.
Did you think, how easy it will be to farm accounts with AI?

How do you think this will affect local SEO for local businesses?

The whole SEO and affiliate industry is in panic mode, but the truth is no one really knows or can predict how regular people will interact with AI.
For me, right now, it just looks like featured snippets on steroids.
Have people received 0-click answers until now on a lot of queries? Yes. Did they keep visiting websites for more info even though their questions were answered? Yes.
All those how-to content that people predict will be killed by AI have long been answered by Google snippets for years and still they generate traffic to sites.

It doesn't look that different from what we already have. Google already displays complete answers to questions without you having to go to any website.

Anyway, i can see Google being buried in lawsuits.

I'd love for all this to be true, but Google doesn't need publishers.

You know we're already approaching the limit of training LLMs with textual data? There isn't really much more they can consume. The next stage is video so they can actually learn from movement/seeing.

You say that the "AI fails", but it doesn't work like that sadly.. AI doesn't need constant new content from publishers. Once an LLM is trained, it's trained. It can't really learn more from text actually. At this stage it needs video, to see.

Also, what most people don't understand is, LLMs aren't suppose to contain facts/information. The purpose of training them is to give them an understanding of the world. Not specifically knowledge.

Ie, they learn what a cat is, what it's related to, what it does, why it does it.. It's more about it understanding the concepts of language and the world.

It's not meant to be filled with facts like "Who was the 34th President of the US".

For that, you actually use memory, which right now for LLMs is in the form of a vector database. If you can't use the LLM its self for the ultimate source of truth. It's the reasoning engine. You want it to be able to understand and reason, then you pull stuff from memory depending on what it needs to do.

It's like you, if you want to do something, you can google it, read a page, and do it.(Although you too do have memory, although we don't really know much about how memory works in our brains)

The other big thing that you're missing is this :-

Think about how most web pages are created.

Some guy hires a writer to write. Write googles, reads and writes.

The vast majority of web pages are just regurgitated knowledge.

VERY few are direct experience based, and even if they are, where does that experience/knowledge come from? There isn't that much new knowledge being created on earth. Most of it is just existing knowledge.

Really, almost all web pages are junk. A better source are books, which are separate from the web. Most experts will create books, not web pages.

These days there are more sources of knowledge from video though. Many experts will make videos, but again, video is separate from the informational web.

But if you go further, what happens when LLMs have consumed all the video too? THEY are then more expert than humans. They already are in many areas.

What kind of information do you foresee an AI not being able to write about without humans?

If it has access to all textual/video/image knowledge in existence, in every language. What else does it need?

It can watch ALL of youtube. In every language. See every image ever taken and stored online.

Does it need humans to make new knowledge? gpt4 is already smarter in many ways than most humans. I gave it Einstein's Riddle, and it solved it. 2% of humans can solve it. gpt3 didn't, but gpt4 did.

There's also new techniques to make it even smarter like chain of thought. We do this, you just don't realize. When you add in chain of thought, they become incredibly smart, and we're only at start.

So you have something approaching a level of being smarter than humans, 1000's of times faster, with access to all video, images and text in digital form in every language. The ability to write, make videos and make images.

Why does it need Bob from bhw hiring writers on Upwork for his latest affiliate project?

Why expert is going to be able to produce more unique, better content than it?

In summary, AI *already* has all the information. It doesn't need us anymore.

And the legislation part.. Come on :)

Who controls the world? The little guy? The law is created by those who control the world to protect themselves and keep the world from going into chaos. It's not there to prevent them from achieving their ultimate goals or gaining more power.

You aren't going to stop AI with a lawsuit. It will not work.

Humans ALREADY learn from other people's books/work. Our knowledge is not unique.

An AI is only learning. You can't prevent something from learning and claim copyright. That's like me reading your math book, then making money with math, and you claim I've infringed on your copyright.

It would never work, but most of all it won't work because why would the people in power allow it? vanguard and black rock own most companies. The world is owned by very few people. The people behind the scenes MAKE the laws. Any illusions of fairness for the people are only there for show. No one cares about publishers.

This might seem doom and gloom, but, ignorance of impending change won't save anyone from it. Taking steps to secure the future equipped with knowledge will.

They are shooting themselves in the foot with this change.

I really hope Google gets dethroned for this BS, first ads dominated half of the first page, now AI is taking up the second part.
How you would you know it better that their managment team who knows things inside out years ahead...

....

Just like a sperm cell needs an ovum or an egg. There is no life without either.
But you write about G people as if they were as intelligent as you are, and cared about the future. They are definitely NOT. Like someone said, they can as well shoot themselves in the foot. To be intelligent, you have to be humble, or at least realistic. They aren't any more. They have become stupidly overconfident and perhaps too big to last. In the jungle, it's tigers that kill and eat elephants, not the other way around. Things have been changing fast, not sure if Google can keep up the pace.

That's just a load of hogwash :-)

Google hire the top talent on the planet. They have 100's of billions in cash. They have massive technical resources both tangible and intangible.

Being humble has nothing to do with intelligence. How could it? What's being humble got to do with your ability to solve difficult problems?

And "realistic"? By who's definition. Yours? But who made you the god of the world that defines what's real and unreal? I thought you were humble?

Google aren't stupid or overconfident. I don't know why people think they're a bunch of drooling dummies. They are a top 5 global company.

Have you built a top 5 global company recently? Or do you prefer to just talk smack from your armchair? :)

How you would you know it better that their managment team who knows things inside out years ahead...

Because on the Internet.. Everyone is an expert genius.
