Erotica seems to sell well - have you any insight on the fantasy genre? Do small books/series sell as well?
How do you set your prices ? I have a lot of 50+ pages at 2,99$ but no sales. Do you think the price can be a problem ?
Anyone tried children's ebook ? I have some questions.
HI all,
How do you set your prices ? I have a lot of 50+ pages at 2,99$ but no sales. Do you think the price can be a problem ?
Hi,
I made some statistics, in my main category (non fiction) top100:
Average book length : 206
Average price : 6.68$
The first: 273 pages 2.41$
The second: 321 pages 7.99$
The third: 63 pages 2.43$
The fourth: 352 pages 12.51$
Perhaps in that niche readers want bigger books, but will pay more?

Agreed - 321 pages would be about how many words?
Just published my first book on Amazon - Phew! Just waiting for approval.
I gotta say, this is definitely a lot of work and is NOT something that'ss easy. Everything from researching, building the book, formatting it, editing, creating the ebook cover, email lists, social, back matter, kdp accounts, author central accounts, stock images, tax info. It requires a lot of time and effort, so anyone thinking they are just going to slap a few thousand words onto a word doc and make a lot of money, forget about it.
I can tell it will get easier in time as I get into the groove, but I can see it's a "What you put into it is what you get out of it" effort. And I sort of like it that way. I haven't even made a sale, but publishing my first book has given me a "rewarding" feeling that I never really felt with any sort of building websites or internet marketing. Even if I don't make a penny I am very thankful that I found this thread as it kickstarted me into a feeling of motivation that I've never had before.
I will definitely share my results for comparison.
The OP presented this whole system as being fairly time consuming, which I can understand. However, if you outsource writers, wouldn't that greatly reduce the effort associated with this system?
I am currently looking for writers on "Elance" and I am finding their rates to be incredibly, breath-takingly, high.
I am not sure where to go from here, I can write fairly well but I do find creative-writing to be extremely tolling. It wears you down. And usually requires multiple revisions.
I was wondering if anyone ever figured out a solution for hiring cheap writers?
I have only read up to page 11 in this thread but do wish to thank the OP for his work. He's ahead of his time and a true visionary for this system.
A lot has changed since the OP wrote the original post. Kindle is a lot more saturated which has driven up the demand for writers, prices, and book quality. I would recommend writing the first one or two yourself just so you have a feel for the whole system, once you do then outsourcing using odesk is probably your best bet since they are much cheaper than elance, but definitley more expensive than the OP originally stated. If you're having trouble with writing fiction maybe check out non-fiction, it's 100X easier to write in my opinion
Honestly, I still think the hardest part about all of this is the promotion, writing/outsourcing books and getting sales isnt so bad for me but keeping them going for months is tough, I probably gotta get more creative with how I promote as pinger said.
Not sure if I replied ot this thread... in case I didn't: OP, thank you for addressing my concerns!
Btw, I just noted that erotica books sell like c r a z y ! Certainly an interesting niche to write about.
