I have a question.

GMonkey, isn't selling those works as if they were yours illegal? Not that it isn't common practice, but I wouldn't want some ghost writer threatening with suing me some day...

Do your writers know you sell their work on the Kindle Store?

Hi DonJJ,

GringoMonkey will definitely be back in this thread soon but I wanted to shed a little light on your question while I'm here anyway. Hiring a ghost writer is almost always done with the sole intention of distributing that work as your own, for profit. This is where a strong agreement is helpful but nothing will beat common sense and your ability to hire a great writer.

Ghost writers know what they're getting into, they've chosen to sell their services for guaranteed payment instead of creating their own books which do not ensure reward for their work.

Make sure you have the writer sign a "ghost writer agreement" which you can easily find with a quick google search. Ultimately though, you should feel safe knowing that professionals in that industry are comfortable with the arrangement and do not wish to challenge your works at the risk of destroying their reputation as a ghost writer.

Another Question:

I have published a non fiction book in a specific niche (household) 3 month ago. I sold about 25 books per day but the book does not "connect" to other competitors books in my niche. I mean: My book is in no list (eg. "people who bought this book, also bought...") of other books. Could it be that my book is not implement correctly in the Amazon store.

All of my other books are "connected" to other competitors books and this is the only book that is not in any list of other books in my niche?

What should I do? Contact the Amazon support?

Been chilling on a beach...

All the writers I use agree to a copyright transfer agreement. So it is my book - all ghostwriters understand that and that I can edit and market as I wish.

Update: The support can't help me. They said that there is no error with the implementation of my book. Strange. Maybe the free download periode is the reason why this book doesn't connect to my competitors books.

Now I am focusing on my next 4 book series (+ print versions). I think I am ready with publishing these books at the end of October. The best thing is: After I published this 4 books I have 12 books in my niche. I can easily mix the whole content and publish ~5 more ebooks (+print versions) with a new pen name = I will dominate my niche with 17 ebooks + 10 print versions at the end of this year. I also want to publish 2 more books this year which I want to set for free permanently to push my sales and keep my books successful for the future. Now I make ~3000$/month and I plan to reach 5k at the end of this year. That's realistic goal. Wish you everythings best!
 
I've been tracking a couple of books on kindle and even the complete garbage ones that have terrible covers and rank somewhere in 200-300 thousands still get sales (plus their content is laughable compared to my book which is basically the best info from all of those books [mostly the high ranking ones and a bit from low ranking ones]). Gives me hope that I might get some sales once I release my first book, I've spent months designing everything from the cover to the title and content. If so, this will easily beat all my earnings from IM and blackhat in less than a month. Worried that I'll screw up the launch somehow though.

I just put up my first book for free promotion.

This is what I got so far:

164 downloads in the first day
161 downloads in the second day (day is not over yet)

Is that good, or could it be improved?

It's a cookbook.
 
Please do not be angry with me but I also publish cookbooks and get 1000+ downloads per day during the free download period. So your results are not so good. But keep on with publishing. It is also better to go through the free promotion if you even have one or two reviews. I hope you have some hyperlinks to a newsletter-list, website, Facebook site or something like that in your book to catch a few readers at least.

Thanks for the response Pinger030. I guessed it wasn't going very well, that's why I asked here. Not sure what I can do to improve though.

A VA is doing the promotion for me, and she says maybe we should have started the promotion 2 weeks earlier. I'll do that for the next book.

I don't have any hyperlinks to other income sources yet. I didn't plan that far, but you're right, I have to. I'm going to set something up and link to for my next book at least.

What are your experiences with Affiliate-Links in Kindle ebooks? I mean: If you are just use Amazon PartnerNet-Links I can not believe that this is against the Amazon TOS (because it is pure money for Amazon).

What do you think?

I've never had an issue with it but I tend to lean more towards obtaining email optins for marketing via that channel as the results are just better.

An email list is a must have if you want to build up a IM busines that works for a long time (even if Kindle is dead). But nevertheless I think that affiliate-links inside our books is also a good method to make money.

Think about this: I have 8 cookbooks and sell 1000 copys per month. So 1000 people are interested in my topic and they are willing to pay. I could easily post affiliate links behind specific ingredients which you can not find in an ordinary supermarket. So with your existing product (and traffic) you can create another passive income source.

Problem is: Is it allowed? I wrote an email with that question to Amazon KDP and Amazon ParnterNet.

The KDP support said: It is allowed to link a website but not to affiliate-products. For more information I have to ask the PartnerNet support.

The PartnerNet support said: It is not possible because the affiliate-link could change during the time and you can not change ist.


The second mail is stupid because you can change the content of an ebook. It looks like they don't want it but accept it?!? I don't know if the software of Amazon is searching for Affiliate links when you publish a new book. ...and I can not find any information about this...

After generating only an average number of free downloads, my book is doing quite well now. I started getting a download or two each day, but after I received a strong review I've hit around the 10 per day mark. I flirt with number one spot in my category which is great and shows that is about the earning cap for this book, which is fine by me as I realise I need a publisher mindset to succeed.

While I'm waiting on other books I was contemplating adding my book to createspace so I can sell paperbacks. I don't know much about the process in all honesty. Is it as simple as uploading my kindle file and that's it or does it have to be properly formatted for print? Also what sort of sales should I expect (as a % of kindle sales) and are the margins better than kindle books?

Dennis,

Createspace is a pretty straightforward process, they have a template in which you can add your K!NDLE book content into via word, just gotta make sure that you really pay attention to the details such as page count,word counts, and especially the table of contents, such depending on the quality of your kindle book, you may need to really do a edit, as paperback readers are much less forgiving then ebook readers, I have noticed that my createspace sales are close to the level of my ebook sales, with this month "September" being the first month that my createspace sales exceeded my KDP numbers. Because of the time to format a createspace book just right... I would only take my proven winners from kindle... and turn them into Createspace books. This may be a few steps ahead of where your at..... but after createsp@ce... you should really look into publishing some Audiobooks on @mazon's Acx platform... this is my next move... taking the winners from createsp@ce... and turning them into audio books.
