I have some non fiction books with 200 pages. I can not give them away for $2.99. The price of a book depends on the niche, quality, size, value and so on. So you can not say that its better to price a book low than high. For me: My $5.99 books working better than my short and cheap books. They let me male 1k/month (each book) and i am happy with this. It only depends on the value you give to your readers. And if you have really good content your readers will pay a good price.
 
Hi everyone,

I'd like to start building an email list using my kindle books. Problem is I don't really have a clue what I'm doing and would like some input. Ideally, I'd like a website I can direct people to no matter what niche the book is in because I really don't want to have countless different websites for each niche. So what kind of site do I make? Publishing site listing all of my books? A "making money with kindle" site? What are some of the things you guys are doing?

Also, what do I promote to my email list? Products? Other books?

Agree with that... You need to measure client expectation. Obviously it takes longer / costs more to outsource books that have 200+ pages, but if the niche you are targeting expects that, then that is what you have to do.

I target niches that are quicker to get into. That way I learn to fail faster.

I just did like 1.5 weeks ago and a HUGE THANK YOU goes to GobBluthJD for the motivation. I already have 2 books published and a third one under review. The 3rd one is a short erotic story and it was written by me, by the way I have never thought that I will enjoy doing this so much. It is a lots of fun!

Found few writers and also found a very talented guy for creating covers.

Plus today I had my first sale and also around 30+ downloads during the free promotion I run.

Thanks for the inspiring thread. I have been motivated to take action, and finally launched my first book, with a number of other ones currently being written.

The niche I targeted for my first book I really liked the look of. There are two books (both with awful covers, one average writing, the other utter dross, and no book descriptions) that consistently rank between in the top 25k, so I figured by investing in a good writer, cover designer, and a well planned out layout I'd have a good chance at decent income from the niche.

I've used up two free KDP days to try to get some reviews (I got about 250 over 2 days, which is alright, at best), but no reviews yet. I was wondering what legitimate ways there are to get reviews? I've looked at competitors reviews to try to find contact details in order to request reviews from known reviers (I think that's allowed), but there were no email addresses. That means no reviews as of yet. Of course, with the number of free giveaways, there might be one or two coming through over the next few days. But really, reviews are key to getting downloads (either free or paid ones), and those downloads launch you up the bestseller list where you get more visibility (generating even more downloads and reviews).

If I could launch my book into the 15-25k range, I have no doubt that it could sustain its place there, especially with the extra exposure it gets and with the low quality competitiors hanging in there. But at the moment, coming out of the two free promo days, I so far have 0 reviews and am flagging in the #300,000 range. Not the launch I'd hoped for I guess!

If anyone has any tips for gaining that initial traction that would be really helpful for me, and I imagine would help a few others here too!

I'm in a similar spot as dennis, maybe will get some suggestions as well. :) I'm thinking of buying fake reviews atm.
 
Whats it costing some of you to outsource the writing of a 200 page book, seems like it would be expensive.
 
The non-fiction niche dont work properly for me... Lots of free downloads but no sales after the end of free promotion.. =(
My next try will be fiction niche. If dont work again, I will give up and try another method...
 
In every section there are people who say "youtube is dead", "niche websites are dead" or "ebooks are dead" but nothing is dead! You can make money with every product. Information products like ebooks, videos, websites and so on will be never dead because there will be always tons of customers who want such information (eg. people like you who want to know how to make money online).

It only depends on your effort and your marketing. But if you just publish a few books and use the standard marketing methods that every author is using (like the free download periode) - you will fail for sure. The heaviest mistake you can make if you start any business is to give up too fast. You just have to market your products cleverly (more clever than all of the idiots who publish a few books and hope that they get rich over night).

I don't want to insult anyone here but if these are your idea of work/of a business you will fail with every method, sry.

The keywords you target are incredibly important. As part of a current case study I'm working on, some of my clients launched brand new books with zero marketing and landed in the sub 30k BSR bracket on the first day with only improvements thereafter.

Simply identifying a keyword with products that sell is insufficient for a few reasons:

1) The products that sell well and appear in that category could very well be earning most of their sales from OTHER keywords
2) In some cases the keyword is "cornered" meaning that one or two products soak up all of the potential sales with little room for competitors.

This why looking at other factors such as buyer behavior (checking out what products people "also bought" inside a keyword) among others becomes really valuable. If there's interest, I'll post a video on the whole method from a "done manually" perspective as it sort of goes along with the training I'm working on for my product right now.

TLDR: Pick the right keywords and choose very wisely because they make or break you when you're trying to launch products without a large marketing budget.

Its my first post in this thread, I have read many messages, looks one of the best thread to discuss about Kindle. I start working on Kindle from last week, I upload 3 books so far, my first sale comes right after 2 days but no sale after that, I run free campaigns also for 2 days, and I get 100 sales on first book and approx 50 on second, but there is no review so far, I notice that my books are ranking good on amazing for targeted keywords ... but I am worried why there is no review?

thats normal. If a book is free many people will download it just because of the fact that it is free. Many people are not really interested in your topic (and will not read your book) so chances are low that they will review your book. My last book has 1000+ downloads per day and I got just 1 review. My advice: If your book is good the reviews will follow naturally. You should post the first review with a friends account (to bring the stone to roll). Thats my experience. Go on and publish more books, make a website (+email list) and/or a facebook page for your pen name/niche = You can contact your readers/fans directly and the chances are high that they will give you a review if you ask.

To expand on this, even if you're not willing to stand up a simple website (I really do recommend making one) then you can still create an opt-in page with mailing providers like mailchimp to capture leads and follow up with customers. A great "hook" to get these emails is to add something at the front of your book such as:

"Sign up here to get our newest books completely free!"

This will change depending on the type of book you're writing and the incentive you wish to offer, but it's generally a good idea to offer something like a notice of the newest free books because your readers will feel compelled to leave you a positive review (especially once you ask them!) and it always results in more sales later.
