Hi I have been working with kindle and books for over a year now, yes money can be made and if you treat it right lots of money. I write, format, and do the covers for the books with a partner who also writes. some points may help always use images you have the rights use, for covers, Erotica is a good place to start because you can get away with 5000 words and sells ok , one thing that can make good money are YA series, as for marketing create blogs, twitter accounts under the author and grow them. its been noted that the more books you have out the more you make, treat it as a long term growth and you will get rewards. also just to mention if your outside USA you may want to look in to an EIN number to stop amazon keeping 30% in tax

This is quite an awesome thread I've been watching for several months now since OP started it.

I've read differing reports on how important keywords are, some say very so try and deploy SEO like tactics others say no, and then there are others who say we have to unlearn our long tail training. Not sure who to believe, if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears?

If any one has the name of the Kindle review group I'd like to join, PM me if you could. I'm going to start going at this hard in the next few months so will need lots of reviews and also want to help out others struggling to make ends meet online as well.

Thanks for sharing. I love the fact that once your books are done, it's all set and forget, and Amazon takes care of the rest. It's like income for the rest of your life for doing nothing more.

That is not exactly correct. I don't think there is a limit. You can use as many pen names as you like. I have several books and I cannot even remember the number of pen names I have used.

You're right. You can have as many pen names as you want UNLESS you're using Author Central, in which case, you're limited to three pen names per Author Central account (and you can have only one AC account). To clarify, if you're just publishing through the KDP dashboard, then you can use unlimited pen names. If you want to set up AC pages for your pen names, you can do that for only three names at a time.

I've been having some success with Kindle and now Amazon has introduced the Matchbook scheme. You mentioned that you used CreateSpace to publish your books in paperback. What I'd like to know is if you have had any significant success with the paperback sales of your books and if, in your opinion, it's worth it to go to the extra trouble of publishing paperback versions of the books? Also, most of my Kindle books are priced at $2.99, so what do you think a suitable price would be for the paperback version (most of them are novellas).

What happened to this thread all dried up? Ok I'll start it up again, what tools like copyscape does Amazon use to test if something is unique. Lots of tools out there are are for checking student papers, but what's considered the industry standard?

Just use copyscape (premium). That's what I use and I've never had any problems with amazon.
 
Hey guys, I've been racking up some sales with Kindle the last few months but still haven't received any payment. (I know they pay at 60 days but it's been more like a 100 days now). At what time of the month does Amazon send out checks (I'm a non-US resident) - at the end of the month or middle of the month?
 
I just got 3.3% for a one day promo over the weekend on almost 5k free downloads.
