Guys: Kindle is the Ticket!

I think he mentioned that he outsourced a series of 4 fiction books for $100, with 10000 words each, which is pretty cheap imo for the quality that can be published on amazon.

Am I wrong or is it normal rate after all?

That is not a normal rate. I got really, really lucky in that I found someone who is a great writer and is willing to work at that rate because she knows I have basically unlimited work for her. With other freelancers, I'm paying more like $50 per 10,000 words. But I make that back the first month 98% of the time and every following month is pure profit, so it's a pretty low-risk investment for me.
 
A lot of people seem to be talking what type of books to sell on Kindle.

I have just agreed a publishing deal and that means I am not allowed to publish independently any more.

Extracting the books that are part of the publishing deal, I still have books that currently net me over $3000 per month on Kindle left.

I therefore wondered if anyone would be interested in a deal to take over ownership of them?

Anyone interested please PM me and I can provide you with the last 3 months Amazon validated sales figures (Apr-Jun 2013) and answer any questions.

This is shady. Most (all) publishing deals with legit companies would allow you to keep previously self-published books. They can only control your future work output. If you signed something saying you can't continue earning money from previously self-published books, you either (1) got screwed, or (2) are working with a very shady publisher.
 
Guys I wont write from my own experience with kindle but there are sites out there where you can track kindle books for free. track some so called best sellers you will be lucky if it sells five to seven books a month in the 99 cents category where you get 35 cents. Wow you are an instant millionaire.

MisterTwister, join the Skype group. We are doing review exchanges. Today I have exchanged four total reviews. You could easily drown out that bad review with 3-4 good ones from the group. PM me your Skype and the group will help get your mom back on top. It was probably another author trying to slow your momentum.
 
I'm not entirely certain, but I'd bet money that the person who left the terrible review has some Romance novels floating around on Kindle doing poorly and is trying to knock her book out of the competition.

Gob, have you ever had any problems with things like that?

This is highly unprofessional, and extremely frowned upon. Authors do NOT directly respond to negative criticism on Amazon EVER. (Constructive criticism is different...and I don't have time to go into how to handle that.) That's what your fans are for. Get enough people to downgrade that review (leaving comments helps too) and Amazon will have no problem removing it when you ask them to -- especially if the critic has gone against Amazon's review rules. Responding to that review will expose your weakness and open you up to a shitstorm of negative review trolls. YOU DO NOT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN.
 
wow, I'm now currently working in a publishing company (converting ebooks to epub/kindle)....maybe you can outsource me....give me the scanned book, the tools, and I'll give the book back to you in kindle.:o

Yes, I second this. Don't ever respond to a review. No matter what, that will not end well. Just suck it up, and move on. It's tough, I know, I've received plenty of 1-star reviews. But people still buy and if not, you should always be working on the next book anyways!
 
I have managed to get 5 more reviews posted by friends and family who had downloaded the book during the free period but that was 16 hours ago and none are showing. Despite being ranked #7 in romantic suspense sales have plummeted. I can't believe the impact this review has had - if the other reviews don't show up soon I think this is the end of sales for this book. Like I say it was at #1 and gaining sales by the hour before the neg was posted.

I am more than sure it was written by another author / or friend of an author.

What makes things more frustrating is that reviews are amazing all 5* real people in the US but these don't show in the UK.
 
Lesson number 2: Never use the same computer / IP address that has logged into the authors account to leave a review - they get blocked or removed! Only 1 out of the 5 got posted due to me logging in to check book sales everywhere I go!
 
About to take a stab at this, read the whole read, but still got a couple of questions:

1.) Is there/has anyone used a service to discard negative reviews? What's the best way to get people to vote that the review wasn't useful?
I don't want to fake positive reviews, because of the risks, but to discard negative reviews should be relatively risk-free, right? Assuming there won't be many of them. I'm going for super high quality, mainly afraid of competition giving out negative reviews. I realize you probably can't save a sinking ship this way if the product is shitty.

2.) Can it be a bad thing to give out too many books for free? Do you think one should always run the full 5 days of promo, even if there's a lot of downloads? (Say, for example, 15,000 by the 3rd day or something?)

1) I've never heard of a service like that existing for Amazon. At any rate, it's not worth it. We all get negative reviews. It's just a part of publishing. No big deal - just have to not dwell on it and keep going. One of my best sellers right now has 4 one star reviews...and 4 five star. Some people hate it, some love it, but it sells. Just move on to writing the next book.

2) My $0.02 - it's never a bad thing to give out free books. Of course, if you only have one book, I can understand how you think you're losing sales. But once you have a handful of books, every free book you give away is a potential customer for all the rest of your books, so it makes sense to get your name out there to as many people as possible.

1. I panicked recently with a negative review and it DID effect sales however a few good reviews later and 4 or 5 votes against the neg review being helpful and a few votes againt the positive reviews this is now insignificant. I don't think you need a service for this just 4 or 5 mates.

2. I can only give you experience from promoting one book - At 9,000 US downloads after 3 days if I had stopped the promotion then I would have been given a significant boost by amazon in my rankings and caught the tide when momentum was high. This happened in the UK because it took neary 3 days to get going and once it did the promotion stopped at just over 8000 UK downloads and immediately shot to no.1 of best sellers and had remained in the top 20 in three different romance genres now for the last 5 days. Also it appeared on the first page of kindle store for a few hours which really gave it a boost. Next time I will stop the promotion at its height in the US and see what happens.
