A mate has a diversified service business. He had a few ads on Gumtree (Australia) each advertising a specific niche (but also listing all his other services at the end of the ad) and they all worked well for him. Recently his account was stopped on the grounds he had "multiple ads advertising the same company's services". Meanwhile his competitors have up to 50 ads each! Each competitors ads are all on the same account, same phone number and advertise the same website. Many use the same photos as one another and advertise the same type of service multiple times.

He's raised this anomaly with Gumtree. They won't discuss his competitors but stand firm that he broke the rules and remains banned. We would assume his competitors are running multiple accounts, email addresses & phone numbers, but in fact each one has all their ads on the one account. Clearly they have some kind of permission to do this as they have been repeatedly reported by my mate and others.

What's really going on here?
What are these competitors doing to remain immune to Gumtree's "no duplicate" rules?
Are they paying up every time Gumtree offers to "bump up" their ad? Does that work?
Or is there some other way, like some kind of business account?
Or even better, a way of beating the system ;-)

I am located in Australia and was recently creating 11 ads per day for my web service, each ad was different and were targeting the different cities. All 11 ads were created on the same account using the same phone number and website URL.

This was working good until 3 weeks later Gumtree caught on and deleted all the ads and blocked the account as it was violating their multiple ad policy.

I tried using vpn but gumtree some how picks up on them.

So I went to my local library and created a brand new account, email, url, website and created an ad and it worked but if i created another ad they would pick me up and shut me down, they must pick up on new accounts as aged accounts are more trusted.

I'm now searching for someone who can post these ads but it's proving a lot harder than expected.

It turns out Gumtree can pick up on VPN so I just purchased dedicated premium virgin proxies and changed the ad content and URL and it did the job :)

Hello, having issues getting blocked by Gumtree. Using similar methods to Aspkin in terms of using seperate user accounts and email addresses but my ads are still getting blocked within a day of posting.. If my IP address is changing each time I can't tell how they seem to be tracking me.. would buying and using virgin proxies as you've mentioned break any link they have between the seperate accounts I'm using?

Sorry to highjack thread
