GSA Search Engine Ranker worth it?

it's really a great software, i'm using the demo version, and so far (it's been running a little over 30hrs total) it's generated about 19,000 (8k verified) links across 6 different campaigns from blog posts, guestbooks, and image comments
(of course i'm using my own curated aa lists, but it's still kickin it like jackie chan)
i'd say about 7-8k of those links are .edu links too.
my only issue is it's a major internet hog (i've run it for 3 days, but had to keep turning it off bc my wife complained she can't use the internet)
this program is on my list to buy right after scrapebox and capcha sniper

How many threads have you been running and have you been running private proxies or public?

i've been running 30 threads, i found that running only 3 threads while my wife is up using the internet keeps traffic down enough for her to use

private proxies for the first 20hrs, then my private proxies took a crap, so it ran about 4hrs without working proxies but still trying to use them, now i'm using public proxies, but since i scrape, test and harvest my public proxies with charon, and only use the best out of the list (i grab about valid 300 anon prox / harvest after filtering and testing), i saw no difference with private and public proxies, i'm also using a comprehensive badword list for urls (custom, a bit over 200 entries long) and the only onpage filter i have running is to skip pages with akismet on them

Ya I had a pretty big badwords list loaded to use with the onpage filter but just realized it was skipping URL's that didn't really have bad words. For instance it would skip blogs that had the words "class" or "assistance" because they have the letters ass in them. Seems like the on page filter needs to be tweaked to only skip exact words or phrases.

I'll have to email Sven about that one.

You should share your custom URL list. ;)

Update is ready!

2.66 - new: submission speed improved with engines that require login
- new: added new engine "php link directory article"

I always turned off the PR checker when submitting to the social bookmarks because the majority of them are PR0 or N/A anyways.

Yeah I figured as much since that makes sense, but I was trying to squeeze in the bookmarks in one project so that I wouldn't have to edit it.

Oh, and I'm using 15 threads on my VPS and running 5 project simultaneously with settings close to what yours are. After 3 days only stopping for updates I have about 250-320 links per project so far. Seems low but I will do articles, bookmarks, and forums in a second run after I let this go for awhile longer.

Alright here's an update from Sven when I emailed him about the slowed down speed.

"I found nothing that could have influenced this. Though I could optimize a lot things today which should result in much better speed.
All I can imagine is, that the new "auto modify" function that modifies text with random line breaks and others (to prevent duplicate content) is not supported by some blog engines. I have to watch this I guess. "

I think once he gets things optimized, it should help a lot. Gotta love Sven and his amazing support.

I own it and love it. If anyone has any specific questions about it, let me know and Ill try to answer them.

Hello s4nt0s, I am considering right now SJ, NHS and GSA. I have donwloaded GSA trial and I'm completely shocked!! How Simple!! How brilliant!!

I kindly ask you if it is enough to use hidemyass when submitting or there is a need of using proxies... which proxies are recommended to use with GSA?

Thank you!!!!

Well there is definitely a need to use the proxies with GSA because it's constantly scraping from search engines and without proxies, your search queries will got blocked quick. I've never used hidemyass so I'm not exactly sure how that works? Does that give you one I.P. address or multiple I.P.'s? The whole idea is you want as many I.P.'s as possible so it can rotate through them and lower the risk of getting them blocked.

I use Squidproxies but another user said that squid turned off their proxies from using GSA so someone else might need to chime in with some good proxy providers. I know at one point yourprivateproxies was suppose to have some of the fastest proxies around and I also tried anonymous-proxies in the past and had pretty good results. I'll be using my squidproxies until they tell me otherwise or shut them off.

How many proxies do you use? I've been planning on getting this software

I'm using 100 right now but you can get away with far less. Probably 20 should do the trick but maybe 10 would work too depending on the amount of threads you have set. You want at least 1 proxy per thread in my opinion.

Hello, a thread can be considered one project running?

No if you go to the options tab, you can adjust the amount of threads you want to use while GSA is running. The more threads = the faster is submits links but also the more bandwidth is used, etc. If you're on a home connection you might want it around 5-10 but on my dedi I'm running it at 50.

Anyone know what the different colors mean for the project names? They seem to change colors at various times also.

Yea, I noticed this as well - 'sneaky'? nahhh, I would have done the same thing if it were my app! after all its down to the user to be vigilant with the settings isn't it??!:toddieg-s

You would expect that maybe from free software. But not if you pay for it. But maybe that's just me. ;)

Anyone got a nice canned list of categories when doing Directory submissions? I'm wondering if more categories will help me increase success rate, or just to focus on 2-3 categories that are keyword-related.

Has anyone worked out how to change platforms half way through a project? I have several running for a couple of days. Whenever I stop them and try to change platforms it posts to it simply continues to post to the same original platforms despite the fact they are now unchecked....

Try unselecting "Also analyse competitors backlinks" just above the Search Engine Options.

I think you have to right click the project => Modify Project => Delete Target URL Cache, though I havent had a chance to test this
