It may different in some niches but I can't tell you how many ranking sites I see that are either thin content websites or don't even update a single thing for years and Google somehow ranks them high.

A lot of these sites are even ranking on old crappy directory links though I guess age may be the main reason they're ranking. It shows Google is so full of $#!t though when they talk about quality content. It seems like back links must be 70-80% of the main ranking factor.

Anyone agree or disagree with my assessment?

    Cheers

Could be that, but a lot of the so called gurus also regurgitate what people at Google say in their pr talks, like as an example in Google hangouts, John Muller might tell someone they don't need to build links which is obviously weak advice if you're a new site, unless you're a big company you probably won't magically get links without reaching out.

For one second, let's just look at what we see with our own eyes.

Amazon, eBay. Short text and 99% repetitive of the same shit. Ranking 1. Goes against the fucking moron kids who preach bollocks. The fucking losers, who probably live with mummy and daddy. The pathetic people who like to tell others how it is done, yet can't do fuck all.

There are loads of ways round SEO and Google. But if you sit there and listen to these clueless dick cheeses, then you are going wrong.

Yeah, their serps have really turned to trash. I also noticed many times they show the same shit for most of their results. Just shows they are doing a garbage job in their organic search. It's been over a year and a half since they released another penguin update too, they created quite the shit storm with that algorithm, and my guess is they are having trouble putting the finishing touches to that algorithm.

Content is definitely not king when it comes to ranking, but it definitely contribute to your SERP ranking, who know by how much %.

Depends if you just want to rank of if you want to engage and convert real people who land on your site I suppose?

Also, the algo etc is improving (think 2007 as a comparison), so future proofing yourself a bit would seem a sensible strategy?

What is considered "quality content" for google? Word count? Cuz I highly doubt an AI that crawls hundreds of millions of pages every day has the time to process all those hundreds of millions of pages and determine if x sentence makes sense, if anything it counts all the words and determines if it's quality content or not, as well as doing a quick duplicate content search.

Therefore I agree that "quality content" is extremely overrated, you can rank with trash content if you have the links to back it up yet you cannot rank with "quality content" in a completely new website with no traffic nor links.

All that "quality content" does is help rank due to word count factor and non duplicate content and perhaps visitors are more likely to link back to you if they liked your article.

You just need to know the algorithm. I'm sure a bunch of us know. If you're sore about not being able to get ahead, then try a different approach. It's as simple as that.

"Content is king" is a saying that has only been good for one set of people: Writers.

Well let's look again what we can see for fact. Leave the hear say bellend self proclaimed internet geniuses for one moment. Let's look at a basic fact.

Google cannot even translate English to German without making a pigs bellend of it. Yet I'm supposed to believe it can tell the difference between good content and bad?

With the AI factor coming into play brace yourself for the biggest google whipping of the century in about a year or less. Remember, most of it is still in infancy. Quality content is nothing but structured content written in a easy-to-understand language which refers to the key industry-specific parameters, or information which are useful for the end users. If SEO for you is 90% of links, then you're not prepared for the future. Pair up your link strategy with actionable content driven by data and the future will hold good promises for you.
