Google will launch his +1 button TOMORROW

I'm positive I read on Search Engine Watch they are going to use this as a factor to determine SERPs, shame I can't find the article.

Going to be very interested anyway :)

edit: To make this viable, they would have to put the same amount of effort/resources that they have in AdSense click fraud.

of course they are.. they can't keep their dirty little mits off of data like that.

Google wouldn't have it affecting the SERPs any time soon but in the future, I'd imagine it will have an impact. Esp with the on-page +1 button, another way for G to track your visitors (referrer, demographics, trail through the interwebs).

What I don't understand is how this will help anyone in anyway. The top pages in the SERPs most searched phrases are going to naturally get more +1s than the others because it gets more unique visits. It's bias and will never prove anything worthwhile or give G any kind of useful information. I honestly think it is just a sneaky way for them to track traffic.

But you're forgetting a lot of sites ranking well have shit content, tons of ads and just had been manually promoted. No one is going to like them.

It won't be a major factor but it will be one. I also found out it'll show the number of people who +1 the link so you'd see something like "1737 others +1'd this"

Maybe, but it will still get sites that are #1 already the boost to stay there because even if my site is "better", as far as content goes, no one will see it really unless I'm high in the SERPs. So it seems like a losing battle and a dumb move by G, imo.

Maybe that's why the +1 button won't affect rankings?Google is not stupid...

"Google will launch his +1 button TOMORROW"

Dude, it's been out for weeks now already. I +1'd all my sites too. :-p

Oh great more cookies. My computer needs to go on a diet.... LOL

and what was wrong with the facebook like button that they had to add yet another place for people to +1/like something. o yea, thats right, google doesnt have a hand in facebook so they dont get $ from it. Here is an idea, how about someone make a site to +1, like, follow, etc ALL of these sites with 1 click. >> CLICK HERE TO LIKE THIS IDEA <<

Am I the only one that regularly wishes for a -1 button?

I don't think people will hit the back button and hit the +1 button after visting a page from search result. Why should they waste time doing that?

The Google vs Facebook battle reigns on...

& our sites are just collateral damage

I can see them implementing something similar to what they have with CTR & Quality Score in Adwords.

Basically, position normalisation. Meaning if you're 'like' isn't as good as the average for your position from historical data, then you'll be more likely to drop; depending on how the sites behind you are performing.

Anybody think they may be bringing this in, to fade back links out?

Backlinks is weighted quite a lot with them determining how popular a page/site is, but they also know people like us are abusing this.

This may be their way of replacing the back link variable or at least giving (much) less weight to it.

Its much like getting 'likes',i guess sites like twiends will come up soon to increase your +1's

Two days from now one guy on fiverr will be offering 100 +1's for 5$...
