Google update again?!

Never done white hat, grey hat or black hat. Just been focusing on content for this site, which gained some natural links including wikipedia. Have now lost more than 60% traffic. Still telling myself to wait it out....don't change a single thing (although very tempting) and just wait....SMH

I don't think it's to do with that. One of my sites uses https, but drops have happened to 2 others that don't.

They seem to be punishing whitehat sites and awarding the blackhat ones.
 
Is it possible hidden who is getting penalized? Though if it's I doubt it will be significant. You can't have authority with hidden whois.
 
According to google, this update was to reward sites that were undervalued, so unless you find your sites positions really shaken up, you probably haven't been penalized. There's probably just a new site which has dethroned your rank and we all understand that the difference between position 1 and 2 is about a 40 - 60% traffic drop.

The good news however, you haven't been penalized, just outranked.
 
Where has google said that?
I cant see how in the serps that is true as some sites that are now high ranking are total crap tbo
Unless its based on domain age.
 
My website position is gradually recovering. The update hit hard. I lost more than 50% of my traffic.

Yes, I see an improvement for my website. There are slightly more visitors every day. That is because the website is again on the first position for some keywords. The same keywords were somewhere on page 5 on Saturday.
 
Another reason to abandon blackhat link building and focust on whitehat techniques. They are getting smarter and smarter. At this point i've completely abandoned PBNs and other low quality links
 
I think we need to stop saying 'wait and see' and getting people's hopes up. The longer you wait for this to be reversed/your rankings to come back the longer you're not putting effort into building a new site and/or putting effort into your other sites.

I've seen a steadying of rankings over the last few days (health niche). I cannot see any major changes occurring over the next 48 hours. If you've taken a huge hit then take it on the chin and crack on with other sites. Waiting and hoping everything will be ok is the worst thing you can do. Yes, this update is absolutely terrible and some of the utter (sometimes irrelevant and spammy) trash that is ranking is a joke, but we have zero control over it.

I am experimenting on one page with H tags, meta description, keyword density and the like, so I will post up any findings to see if this is something that could be rectified through alterations to these.

Agreed, I've already started making changes. Not waiting around, I doubt it's going to reverse.

According to the new Google Guidelines for Quality Raters' there is new point: E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trust)
So I've noticed, that my health-related site get hit and traffic dropped by 40-50%. And all the "authority" sites get the TOP. I've manually checked a lot of health-related keywords and it seems like HealthLine get a huge increase in traffic during this update, cause they are on TOP for a lot of keywords.

My point is that Google changed algorithms to provide the content which is written by a qualified specialists.

I very much appreciate the suggestion. However, I don't think there is a one-size-fits-all approach to on-page SEO, and this is about experimentation rather than 'best practices'. Thanks though.
 
If the Healthline website is a sample of Google's new quality guidelines Im done! I have seen that site pop up on a few personal searches and their content quality in my opinion is terrible and not fun to read.
 
Anyone else get this message in their Google+ account? I've never seen it before. I share my articles through this account. And this account is linked to my health website that has seen a 40% reduction in traffic... Perhaps I should disconnect this Google Plus account from my website and see what happens? Let me know what you think. And let me know if anyone else has got this message.

No messages in Search Console. I found it strange because that message has never appeared when I've signed in before. It just popped up all of a sudden. The message is referencing the fact that I have shared my own health articles in Google + communities. That's really all I use my Google + account for. And I haven't shared my own articles through Google + in weeks now. So it's not like I did something recently that violated their policies.

Anyway, thought I would just share because I think it demonstrates that Google is getting better at all tracking the activity of people on the web. It's like they've suddenly become aware that I was sharing my own articles.
