Google update again?!

Seems that rankings are slowly crawling back. Hoping for the best.

Yeah mine dipped down the other day. Knocked quite a few from the first page to the second. Hoping it bounces back soon.

Lost 50% traffic within the last 24-48 hours. Haven't seen any improvement so far. Content mostly over 1500 words with enough pictures. Haven't done any link building at all. Don't even bother who links to me or not. Was ranking 1st page and some 1st spots for keywords. Now down to page 5 or 6. Funny thing is...for some non-competitive words, I'm still ranking 1st. So I'm starting to think this may be link related and I should start focusing on building links rather than content?

Agreed, a site of mine that was pushed back from top 10 and 20 to page 5+ are all coming back to normal. Lets hope for the best.

I've seen drops in the number of RD that Google reports (in WMT and also in search results - a couple of my sites have a high percentage of URL anchor texts making links easy to track).

From looking at which links no longer are reported, I'd guess that Google has changed the inclusion criteria for being in the index, and that "lower quality" pages (whatever they are) have been dropped. If you have links from pages that are now no longer in the index, they'll no longer help you.

It makes sense for Google to house-clean from time to time.

All speculation...

IIRC google stated that this not a link-related update. It's simply how they display results, meaning some sites might switch positions, but that does not mean it's a penalty.

The only site that was affected in my portfolio was my main health blog, other sites see no changes. Another main site, which is in "jobs" category saw no decline - on the contrary - it receives more traffic now (up to 20,000 per day).
It might be that only some "niches" are affected, especially the profitable ones.
Will see in the upcoming days how it goes....

I notice drop of ranking for keywords on 1st page that were in top 3 so traffic drop too maybe 30% on whitehat site with a lot of content and great links

Hey I'm new here, glad to have found this forum. Like mtj85, I also run a health blog and I've seen a 20% decrease in my traffic the past couple of days. I checked Google Search Console and it says my average position and average clickthrough rate are the same, but the total number of impressions and therefore the total number of clicks have gone down. Is this a good sign then? Will it likely bounce back since my position hasn't appeared to change? Let me know what you guys think, I'd appreciate it. Cheers.

give it some time. right now you can do anything.

In the Fit niche in google.NL it seems google has problems ranking the correct page for the correct keyword. Lots of sites are now ranking with different pages. Also i notice a spam site that has copied the content from another site and is now ranking and the orginal site is not ranking any more for that given keyword.

Other niches i dont notice much

think google needs to sober up

The main thing I notice in Google Search Console is that there was a 32% decrease in "total impressions" from July 31 to August 1. So my content is simply not appearing in search results as much any more, but my "average position" has stayed pretty much the same. In fact, it appears to have gone up slightly. So it doesn't make sense to me.
