This doesn't appear to be true.
Several niches I'm in I have better (500+ PR5 or greater links), more backlinks, tons of high quality pyramids and the most updates in the entire niche
Google hasn't moved the site in weeks on the terms marketed.

I searched google via a proxy browser and I can see what you mean ... On there my site doesn't show in top 50 but when I surf Google normally my site shows on 1st page. Is that because Google knows sites I frequently search for and displays them higher on my browser? Makes me feel bummed out although using Google Analytics I can see quite a few searches to my site by those keyword phrases. Now whether that is a real human or a bot that is replicating human like searching behavious is something I don't really know...

One guy in the comments at the end of the article was saying Google can now index comments made on facebook. Anyone know if that is true? Great spam opportunity.

My first thoughts are:
1) This doesn't really effect my niches but if you are in a health or finance niche it might effect you. Of course if you are in news or sporting events niches it will effect you too.

I think Facebook will have it's own algorithms in place that prevent spam comments, although my mindset in reading this question is making me think about blogs. If enough people write about this "new" spamming opportunity, Facebook will pick up on it and put mechanisms in place to minimalise it - in the same way Google tries to stop search engine spamming. This is just my own opinion based on observations and commin sense so feel free to correct me, as I will be open to exploiting this opportunity, since it seems "legal"

I do that on average 3 times a day but still get these so called "good" rankings when others have reported I am not in the top 40. It doesn't worry me too much as I get alot of incoming visits from local search and that is my main search target market, although to be ranked highly in the intl search would be a good bonus. I havn't had much time to do any SEO because of my studies but today I had my last exam for the year and I have 3 months of doing not much other than a normal 9-5 job, looking after my son and spending time with my partner.

To be honest am not sure when it will end... I think it will be just like every other Google update that has happened, the end won't be obvious to most people except the Google engineers and SEO experts that have been in the game for eons... Either way if your rankings increase, or even stay the same, you shouldn't be too worried

nope, my rankings didnt change at all.
and from my personal experience (regarding previous google updates), usually it was only for a day. I mean let's say by 13 october there was a minor update, i didnt see change at 14-15 october, only at 13 october for all of my sites...im not really worried, im actually hoping it hasnt ended yet as im aiming some rankings improvement, but as i said based on my personal experience it's been always a one day update. I keep my fingers crossed because some members here said google updates usually lasted for several days

Now we will get more relevant items when you search, also smaller sites have a higher chance to get a better ranking.
Completely changes the game for article marketing. I don't know if this is bad how ever, it will force us and others to make things more relevant and place them in areas that are more relevant. It also gives more of a value to a service like a VA.
