Not surprising really, Google has been moving that way for years now, slowly adding in snippets etc. of products recommended when you search for best x etc. they collate different products and promote their own Google Shopping for those products.

This is quite a big move though, for YouTube. Many people make a living doing reviews etc. so I'm wondering if this is going to completely circumvent creators earning revenue from affiliate links if YT is just going to promote the products themselves so you can buy it directly on their platform. They could partner up with creators and offer revenue, but who knows. Could be a big shake up.

Once again, it's evidence that you need to diversify your revenue and traffic. Relying on just Google or YouTube and just affiliate marketing is a recipe for disaster in the long run. Google is incentivized to cut out content creators who earn revenue from affiliate commison and just promote the products themselves and get paid with Google Shopping etc. There's one trend that is working over the years for IM and that's building a brand, it's the only way to create some stability in traffic and revenue (Google loves brands as well). Even still mind you many sites rely heavily on SEO. Sites like HomeAdvisor, The Spruce network of sites etc. IM is a great tool to build income and wealth but you need to have a game plan for the future. Most IM avenues have very little tangible assets, the value is building a brand/service, etc. Owning a cash flowing website is not the same as owning bonds, the risk is much higher so you can't expect to rely on that site to payout for ever.

Anyway, that's enough of me waffling away, what does everyone think about YouTubes move?

Youtube shopping site?

Did anyone else think WHAT IN THE EVER LIVING FUCK IS GOOGLE THINKING when they saw this?

Looks to me like they're desperate to make something out of youtube.

Streaming costs are absurd and 99% of videos aren't worth shit.

If it continues at this pace, YT might transcend into another Amazon.

It didn't help that for years they've been retarded when it comes to "Not Advertiser Friendly". If a YouTuber can have 10 million subscribers and have sponsors, then their content shouldn't fall under the "Not Advertiser Friendly" label. And if people are interested in certain content, then that same content shouldn't be banned from advertising.
For example if someone watches the channel Demolition Ranch, they probably are interested in firearms, so an ad for a local firearm store would be relevant to them. However Youtube won't allow that local store to advertise because it goes against their guidelines even though the store is in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
The reason it's against the guidelines is because the employees of Google are allowed to have input on things if it offends them/they don't like it.

Google has lost tens of billions if not hundreds of billions by letting employees control the company instead of maximizing profit for shareholders.

Yes, Youtube top the list for many best ...and product review type keywords.

How come Youtube doesn't have any real competition? There should be 100+ competing sites by now but there really aren't. What's up?

Google isn't the only billionaire in the Valley.

If streaming costs are the only thing, then Microsoft or Amazon could rival them. Right?

It would require losing billions of dollars without a guarantee of making a profit. It's not known if YouTube is run at a profit or if its being subsidized by other Alphabet companies.

Google tries to monetize every possible way. I think there will just a product tag like Facebook so users can just click and shop without leaving YouTube and it will integrate into Google Shopping I think.

Youtube has too much of a headstart on those other companies. No sense in risking billions to be a distant number 2.

Amazon played it smart by buying twitch and niching down, specializing in one segment of the market, plus Prime Video, thus not being in direct competition with YouTube outside of everyone being in competition for our attention.

YouTube has brand awareness, which is why no one ever thinks “I’m going to upload my product review videos to dailymotion” anymore.
