Not surprising really, Google has been moving that way for years now, slowly adding in snippets etc. of products recommended when you search for best x etc. they collate different products and promote their own Google Shopping for those products.
This is quite a big move though, for YouTube. Many people make a living doing reviews etc. so I'm wondering if this is going to completely circumvent creators earning revenue from affiliate links if YT is just going to promote the products themselves so you can buy it directly on their platform. They could partner up with creators and offer revenue, but who knows. Could be a big shake up.
Once again, it's evidence that you need to diversify your revenue and traffic. Relying on just Google or YouTube and just affiliate marketing is a recipe for disaster in the long run. Google is incentivized to cut out content creators who earn revenue from affiliate commison and just promote the products themselves and get paid with Google Shopping etc. There's one trend that is working over the years for IM and that's building a brand, it's the only way to create some stability in traffic and revenue (Google loves brands as well). Even still mind you many sites rely heavily on SEO. Sites like HomeAdvisor, The Spruce network of sites etc. IM is a great tool to build income and wealth but you need to have a game plan for the future. Most IM avenues have very little tangible assets, the value is building a brand/service, etc. Owning a cash flowing website is not the same as owning bonds, the risk is much higher so you can't expect to rely on that site to payout for ever.
Anyway, that's enough of me waffling away, what does everyone think about YouTubes move?
