I've heard of it a couple of times because there's a handful of content creators that have migrated from youtube to it. I honestly think it'll only take a few bigger content creators (like PewDiePIe) for it to gain some kind of traction. Not that they'd ever turn down the youtubebux tho.

Wikipedia says that they were banned from PayPal and Twitter, and that they specialize in far right, conspiracy, and hate videos, and that they welcome creators that YouTube shuns, so I don’t know how they’ll become mainstream, but what do I know

Hopefully another competitor will pop up at some point in the future with the same level of allure as pre-commercialization youtube.

Welcoming creators that YouTube shuns and leaving it up to the visitors to decide what content they want to watch is literally the only way to compete with YouTube without affording to lose billions a year for several years. Deplatforming for allowing certain content is just an excuse to prevent competition, and it's how the SV cartel stays on top.

One of the reasons I've seen popularly stated for content creators to migrate away from YouTube is the increasing difficulty associated with monetizing videos that consist of anything other than a toy review for 8 year olds. Early noughties Youtube partners like Ryan Higa through to mid 2010 Partners like FilthyFrank could monetize videos that were essentially laden with profanity. Even PewDiePie, a man with over 100 million subscribers, has to censor his content now. I personally can't picture this being palletable for people aged 13 onwards.
The justification appears to be that Google wants to keep their platform safe for advertisers - but there's legitimately millions of advertisers who could care less about profanity or the political opinions of some guy who smashes up iPhones for a living.

Yes, Silicon Valley but it kind of extends to California as a whole.
"Safe for Advertisers" is bs its either employees doing it intentionally or the result of being in an echo chamber where everyone things the same and there is no diversity. If a video was not advertiser friendly, then companies like raycon,nordvpn,simplisafe, raid shadowlegends wouldn't be sponsoring videos with that content.

I don't think the world will ever go back to the way it was with this virus being used as a power grab. Big tech, google, Apple, Amazon. The death of retail is here. They dont want you growing your own food with 100 acres they want cha in mega cities where its illegal to drive someday
