Google releasing a large update today

My posts are only about 15% serious. I don't hate you, it's just my manners.

First of all, this is your job. You don't do it for the community for free, you make a living from that blog. It's nice if you have a community around you, but the community is correlation, not causation.

I have seen BHW mentioned on your site before. But you didn't give us credit for that update. Which is the topic here, not some other random post where you mentioned BHW.

Only thing I have against you is you being a Google puppet all day on social media while they screw us all. If you don't make money from that content (yes you do), as you say you don't, then it's because Google is using all your content for their own benefit. Like they're doing to us all.

Yet you look like a Google spokesperson, to be honest. Why? If you're not making money from it, why do you keep doing it?

It's not "for the community" that's for sure, otherwise you'd just be editing Wikipedia.

Have a nice day Rustybrick.

You do not have to believe me but I make my money from building software, not doing SEO or reporting on SEO. I could not live off what ad dollars I get from my blog. It is a blog, blogs are hobbies. I love covering SEO. I know, it sounds sad but that is what I love to do. Others love to fish, play video games, etc - I love writing about Google and SEO changes.

It is funny, when you ask some Googlers, they think I hate them based on what I write. While some SEOs think I am a Google fan boy. I have been very critical of Google over the years but not always. So it comes across both ways.

More importantly, if I ever EVER not give credit to a source of information - please call me out for it. I am active here, you can DM me or call me out here or on Twitter. I try so very hard to link to all my sources. I absolutely hate when people write stuff and do not link to sources, it is a pet peeve of mine and if I do that, shame on me.

This is getting quite surreal because you do make a living from that blog for the past 20+ years and everyone knows it.

LOL

OK mate. That's it then.

Sorry if I was rude, that's just the way I speak which probably isn't appropriate but I'm too old to change.

Have a great day.

It is not true. I do not make a living off of the blog. I make a living running a software development company named RustyBrick. But you don't have to believe me.

This is a childish debate, to put it mildly. It's called marketing, your blog where you promote everything Google says is pat of your sales tunnel. It's kinda ridiculous how you're trying to make your blog look like a non-profit.

Why not just admit "I worked hard for that blog for 20+ years and use it to sell my consulting?". That's totally fine, nothing wrong about it.

What you're trying to say here is you justify not having given us credit for one piece of information "because you don't make $$$ from it".

That's a completely wrong justification from all angles. Even if you made zero $ from something, your posts about the update on Twitter generated tons of engagement and all of them thought you had come up with the information yourself, when you didn't.

Anyway, you've promised to give us credit when you source infos from here, so that's great. Thanks for that.

@rustybrick keep doing what you doing with your https://www.seroundtable.com/ I always visit your blog to find out what's going in the SERP land. I've never got the impression that your blog is against or pro G, just news on what's going on. I'm pretty sure that besides me many other people appreciate your efforts to keep us updated.
And you don't have to explain to anyone if you make any money from it, it's none of their business.

Thank you - appreciate that.

May I add - I wouldn't even know about this forum were it not for RB posting it as a source, so thank you Rusty!

hmm, 1 message, joined today.... RB's second BHW account? ;)
Haha! Can see why you'd be suspicious, but no. I've been following this thread since the May 4th clusterfuck, but never had anything to contribute before (besides: Arg! I hate you, Google! Wtf is going on?! - which I didn't feel would add much to the debate)

haha yes there is plenty of that! I have followed since page 1 but there hasn't been much hope or help...seems like the indexing issues are now back, I don't think things will revert until covid is finished...

can anyone please tell me what is the best way to run multiple google ad accounts on a single computer , because if one account gets suspended all of them get. so any possible way out

You're probably better off asking in a relevant thread, or making one of your own. This thread is about updates rather than running ad accounts.

where can i ask that particular question in which thread

Have a poke around the forums to see which one would be most relevant to your question. There are boards dedicated to different things like making money, black hat and white hat SEO, "Making Money" and more. You can find them from the page you're on right now. Pick the one you think is most relevant, ask the question there, and you'll get much more helpful responses than mine!

This morning I see, I've gone out of top 100 for some KWs and my rankings have declined for some positions.

I've a feeling that by next month, We might see another update

I noticed something weird is going on with google.

I just had a site age to around the six-month mark, usually in time to get out of the google sandbox and I noticed immediately the traffic just dropped off overnight.

The site went from getting between 8-11 organic visitors a day to practically 0-1 organic visitors.

This is a brand new 6 month old white hat site too.

It seems the site was shielded from this google filter that throttles the traffic until it left the sandbox.

I was expecting the opposite effect based on my previous experience but it seems now google is really going hard on the throttling to increase their bottom end.

same here, I made a location post about my niche. There are only two other articles in the search results that are relevant. I was number 8 originally, at one point I hit #1, then back to #3.....now the post is not even in the top 100 results for two days.... never seen anything like this, it is just mental.
