Google releasing a large update today

I tell you this, each day I do a lot searching on google, for my hobby, business, and other things, as soon as I get the info I was looking for (the sooner the better) I LEAVE the website, in most cases, there is absolutely NO need for me to stay on a website and browse around. How this could hurt any website? They've done their job, gave me what I was looking for and I'm done. Pure and simple.
If bounce rate did count, people would be splitting articles into parts just to keep people clicking (next) around their site, makes no sense and it's bad user experience.

If Google uses the bounce rate as a ranking factor how can Google find this out, if a website does not use Google analytics?

Google works in a more sophisticated way than just looking at a single number (e.g. bounce rate). Now think about it: You look for a particular information on Google. You choose one of the websites on the top positions. You read the content, you find the information you need, you are satisfied, and you leave the site.

Bounce rate in this case is 100%. But Google knows that you found the info, becasue you didn't go back to their search results to check another source. And if you did go back, you did so after spending quite a lot of time (for the given page length) on the website, which means you read it. Maybe you even bookmarked it, printed it, etc.

My point is that bounce rate (as a number) should not be taken as some definite indicator of the success/usefulness/relevancy of your website. website with bounce rate 100% can be completely relevant for some search queries... However, I am sure that on page factors and user behavior are very important ranking factors. You just can't define them in some simple numbers, such as bounce rate, page on site, PV/V, etc. Everything is considered in a much more complicated and sophisticated way by Google...

I don't think bounce rate is big factor here, most of sites in my niche are affiliate type they are just sending clicks from every single page to amazon, and nobody want users to read too much on their site but to go there and shop. Google is most likely checking authority of domain and content quality using their systems and factors not just if your content is long like someone mentioned above ( Let's admit most of IMers here including me use average writers for $20-40 per 1.000 words, and never payed for article $150-200 not to mention more than that and ofc why would we do that its not possible for normal blogs and sites to spend so much money, but check what Google say about content quality here https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2019/08/core-updates.html ) I seen that most authority domains in my niche got huge boost from this update no doubt about that. On the other side me that used 301 and some expired domain dropped so much even if I was holding keywords for 1+ year, i remember the sites that I outranked they are all brands and still holding on top #2 ,#3 didn't move at all. Maybe just in my case but I admit these sites that are above me now are better than mine much much stronger, but you can't do anything to upgrade and be like them, they have in-house 10-20 writers maybe, get few hundreds natural links weekly so what am I supposed to do lol.

Thanks to fking update now my competitor is sitting in fisrt 3 position for the one same keyword!

First page is its landing page, the second and third ones are comment pages .

Fck you Google

I've seen that more and more lately. Sometimes Google doesn't seem to know what the best link is so it just gives several urls from the same website and overloads the first page.
I sometimes wonder if making several pages targeting synomyns wouldn't be a good way to go those days. It gives more relevancy in Google eyes by linking those pages between them too. That seems dumb for the writer and the reader but the bot seems to appreciate this.

This time google fcked up. Many thin content.( Ex: only title and video.) outranked my 1000 words article. LOL

Folks.... It's not over yet! Still got another week, start over-analyzing THEN if things are still all over the place. It's just pointless to do it now...

With one of my sites I got hit pretty hard while another site competing on the same keywords didn't even blink! The site being hit hard has much better content, but very little linkbuilding whereas the other site had 2 new backlinks added every month for the last 6 months.

The site that got hit hard (and I noticed immediately in daily sales...)
Purple = impressions, orange = average overall ranking position, blue = clicks)

I looked up what the spike in impressions caused and it was one specific search term. It doesn't have anything to do with my site though, as there is no content matching the search query, so I'm wondering why my site showed up in the search results.

The search query makes no sense at all to me. It seems an achor link text for an old-school linkportal

There is one specific page that showed up for this search query and that is the link page (it has just a handful of links listed from link exchanges)

The search queries all came from Sweden (my website is Dutch and hosted in the Netherlands)

I'm wondering why this non-sense search query?
Why my links page is triggered while it has no connection with the search query?
Why from Sweden?

I think it might be the result of some (faulty) method from Google of identifying pages that are actively building backlinks through straightforward link exchanges?

The other site I mentioned at the beginning and that competes on the same keywords does not have a links page and had some quality backlinks added through article posts.

Totally agree. Two of my sites compete on the exact same keyword and the one with average content wasn't affected at all while the other with loads of unique, well written content dropped immensely.

I see as well a finance keyword with 15k us volume ranking for featured snippet.

200 words almost 90% generated content.

I think its time to spam Google and forget about white hat lol.

confirmed - i am seeing this as well.

Another interesting finding,

Screen shot1,
As you can see there are a major drop in both clicks and imps, while the avg position clearly has dropped as well. BUT, the number of clicks and imps doesnt correlate with the same volumes as for a couple of months ago

Screen shot2,
Segmented the same data points but for FAQ Rich snippet results, as you can see the drop is clearer and its very obvious that ive been spamming to much rich snippet markups on all my pages...

My honest opinion is to create many websites, different IP and do what you have got to do differently on each website. There's no rule to being safe as far as Google is concerned.

Google has become gambling where the house always wins. The only way to stay safe is to diversify and reduce risk (spendings) significantly.

The site has tanked, I remember I had the same drop on September 24, 2019, google update, had to wait 2 weeks and everything went back to normal, honestly, I am not sure what's gonna happen.

I noticed my eCommerce site is ranking for some unusual keywords. I even got some sales from it.
I think I love this update. Now I am thinking of doing more SEO on my site because I have always focused on social media promotion and it has a high bounce rate. Google keyword ranking seem to convert at a high rate

Hmm, search engine is always better than social but it's the social that provides traffic to sales conversion :P

Google is now a Monopoly and rarely do they do things voluntarily. The updates are now cleverly designed to confuse, discourage, and destroy many websites. How does one comply with guidelines when the key data is hidden?

Yes, this update might favor you but do not be comfortable as it might be temporary. Google is a chameleon and determined to keep webmasters guessing as to what will work or not work.

To me its weird that this update hit articles that bring 50% traffic to website so only #1 and featured position keywords they are now on bottom of first or somewhere on second page. But keywords that were #2 #3 #4 #5 or #8-9 before the update are not affected much or if some keywords dropped they returned next day.
