Google releasing a large update today

I do not believe all the hype about fixing 'thin content'.

A few years ago, the more words you had the higher chance of ranking. Google has already recently said that this is no longer the case. You can see examples of the issue it caused when you search for food recipes, you have to read 1000 + words of backstories about the recipe before it actually gives you it. It was not user friendly at all.

Google said something along the lines of 'If you can get the message across with fewer words, do so'. If the answer can be given in 300 words then do it. I do not think going over hundreds of old posts and longing them out is the answer because it gives a bad user experience.

Can you imagine searching for 'best way to trim my pubic wig' and then having to firstly read 1800 words on the author's traumatic growth issues, self confidence issues, and knock on effects before they give you advice on your Merkin?

I think your posts should answer all the questions the user is asking about, keep it natural.

I've been saying it for ages but people still keep writing "quality 2k-3k articles".
In my niche there are many websites like that and they still rank.
Let's say your keyword is 'blue widget' and you have 3 articles 'blue widgets', 'compare blue widgets', 'advantages of blue widgets'.
All 3 articles will have:
1. what is a blue widget? and then manually spun to have 3 copies.
2. then there's more fluff
3. finally on topic
4. more fluff
So instead of writing 500 word articles they add fluff to make them 2k long.

Google also says that backlinks aren't a major ranking factor. Even though any statistical analysis done on terms ranking shows it does. So let's not use "what google says" as anything that other then bull****.

The reality of the matter is that 1 year ago, bigger content tended to rank better. All of a sudden google changed that focus somewhere November last year and something I also just see happening more in May.

Currently, the site I wrote that have 2000 words of well documented content that answers the question of the query went down (pages that were number 1 for years mind you, so clearly the content wasn't that bad). Now being outranked by people who obviously used my content and did nothing more then make shorter dumbed down content.

Sites of mine that improved? The sites with thin, short content.

I am not even kidding that one of the sites I own has a content plan that is nothing more than the following:

XXXXX [fill value] XXXXX [fill value] XXXX.

100's of articles like above. Google doesn't care, and is absolutely right. This is CONTENT is KING /s

Mind you I am not complaining that this is happening. I wish they told me a year earlier this is what they wanted me to pump out. Finding writers who do research for 2000 words is a lot more expensive than finding a writer who has to basically fill out a form to produce content.
So much money I could have saved!!!!

what is the reason that people still bumping this 6 month old thread? i dont get the point.

This is a good question. I think the answer is that nothing has really changed since then and that reality is hard to accept (it's also unusual). The truth is we all got fucked in the dark and none of us has any idea how it happened. The closest I can get is that Google changed its business model. Before the May update, their goal was to get the best possible search results and encourage webmasters to put up unique, premium content and not to cheat. Their new model is screw Google users looking for results and screw the webmasters ranking without paying us (however good and white hat their sites). Give us your money or fade away.

Semrush sensor is high again. Heuheu..

Positive movements for keywords. New ones popping up and old ones going up.

First time in the history this happens while SEMrush is red - Usually I'm dropping hard when there are any changes.. I hope this is some new update that reverses the May mess.

I see good movements too but it doesn't last long. every update only make my site even worse. The one that will survive is only the high authority sites.

Personally I think Google transformated search index into similar to YT. Daily changes, everybody see it in other way, daily ups and downs... what do you think?

I don't see any movement. Semrush sensor or any other tool high due to a decline of site link in SERP. which are back now. so today again these tools show high. nothing any big.

Yes, i have seen big changes in my top KW's, my top 10 KWs previously on #1, now all are on #2 and #3. I don't know what is the reason behind this impact.

massive drop on one of my sites, main keyword dropped from #5 to #12. It Huuurts :D

@edit

wtf i don't know what happened, now I am #4. I don't know is it bouncing, or I missed character in kw

So nothing new since May ? anyone have any ideas ?
Well, I am currently gathering more direct traffic from various social media websites, but it will take a bit until I get the hang of it. You should do the same since I doubt the organic traffic is going to return to its previous state.
Also, as a general update, my whitehat website has hit its lowest traffic since about 4 years (which is not much longer than the website's age itself). So, yeah, sitting at 25-30 % of its performance since last year.

One of my friends bought 20k Fiverr spam links for 5$ for the testing site and his rank increased drastically. He is now rank 1 for some small keywords. This is just sad.....
