Are you guys still experiencing keywords dancing?
Well, my keywords just dropped and stayed low until I updated the content. At this point, some increased in rank, others didn't. I did experience the insane keyword bleeding that didn't stop until a few days ago. Hopefully it doesn't resume.
What's insane though is that all and I means ALL websites that got hit experience the same thing. It's like a group process, this group now gets hit, then the next, then this one gets hit and so on.

Sometime ago I posted about having a boost of traffic by updating old content.

I have been tracking those updated pages, but unfortunately, after two weeks or so, the traffic drops again.

Anyone with the same experience?

Yes, it has happened to a few high-traffic keywords on one of my websites. Just keep on updating it to maintain it at the top (that's what I currently do).

I noticed my KW's stop bleeding for like 2-3 days a couple of days ago and I even gained back some new KW's but then google pushed out another small update apparently yesterday and now I continue to lose more kw's again. It's as if they are deliberately not allowing my website to rank or something.

I also notice traffic throttling going on. I would have a good hour or two where I see somewhat normal traffic levels with 15+ users visiting then suddenly the next couple of hours it would die back down to 1-2 visitors. This is highly unnatural.

The same here, it's so wired and for sure not natural.

Looks like everyone talks about updating content, however, it appears that this approach is not working. This makes me think that the update has more to do with links/anchor text than content.

So I'm curious what's your link profile? Do you link with a generic anchor or exact keyword?

I feel exactly the same about my site being pushed down, no idea what I've done wrong. Think I'm just going to give up

I was thinking this maybe could be an issue so I have softened a few last night on sites I have access to to see what happens

I tried updating old content, it did diddly squat to my rankings. I also removed all the ads from my site and improved my website speed and that was before this new mini update was rolled out, again nothing at all.

My website is more or less all white hat so I don't have much backlinks on it. But I did have a negative SEO attack in the past where I got a tonne of spammy backlinks usually using my article or URL anchor text. I've pretty much disavowed like 99% of those spammy links a few months back so I'm not sure if google is punishing me for that or not, but by the looks of things, I don't think this is the case, as I have seen both shitty websites with next to no backlinks and thin content along with huge authority sites outranking me now. It seems the guys that are in the middle are getting wiped out.

I ain't giving up! I've spent over 1 year building up my site and building a brand for it. I ain't gonna let google or any other SOB try to take it away from me.

At the moment, I have really been doubling down on my email marketing efforts and trying to convert more of the traffic that comes to my site via organic traffic into email list subs. It's a slow and painful process because I'm a newbie but I am starting to see some engagements and more email opt-ins.

I figure if I can build a list of at least 5000 loyal and highly engaged fans then I won't be held hostage ever again like this.

I can sell my own digital products directly to my list who I know will buy my products.

While my competitors are complaining about google destroying their traffic levels, I am working on converting more and more of my site visitors into email subs and working on creating a digital product to sell to them in the near future.

I learned my lesson!

Never give control away to another company, whether that be as a traffic source or as an affiliate for their products eg. amazon.

In the future, it is my hope that my own products generate the majority of my revenue and my email list is large enough that it's self-sustaining and not reliant on Google for traffic.

I'm not going again. Spent a lot of money producing a site that has genuine quality only to be punished by google for it

For my future sites, I am going to pretend that google doesn't even exist and try to look for alternative sources of traffic and then converting that traffic to email subs.

No one will be able to punish you if you own your own traffic.

I have a mix, but in the past year most of my links have been generic and none to a few exact keywords.

I have dropped about 60-70% of my pre-May traffic.

And since then I have removed most of my ads, Ezoic was a user experience nightmare. So that is fair if that caused me to drop - but no real recovery so this so far hasn't returned my traffic

I have updated content, both made it fresher, rearranged it to push up the main information the user wanted, and then supporting content was moved to the bottom, following Marie Haynes advice - no recovery yet, this was done mostly in the past weeks but no real effect yet

I have added more backlinks (naturally) - might have seen a boost for 1-2 posts which were linked to. But these links had no effect on my site in general or other articles

I have continued to add a lot of content, focus on UX and improving my articles to be better than the top 1st page results -
no effect on old content or site in general, nor have these new posts climbed up to any top spots yet

It could be links built years ago, I haven't built any in about two years, but that doesn't matter as google doesn't put any timeline when doing an update. If they go after something they go all the way back to the beginning when a website was set up.

I remember reading a story on seroundtable a few months ago about DEJAN. He was hit with manual action for unnatural links. And he didn't build any links in about five years. Eventually, he figured it out and found a link on an EDU website causing the problem that was placed years ago.

Here are the links to the articles:

P.S. I wish I got a manual action, at least I'd know what's wrong. Algo filter or penalty is the worst bitch to deal with it.

I haven't really built links years ago. I don't know how or why Google does anything, nor am I closer to solving the affected ranking drop. I have noticed so far that receiving more links have helped my rankings though. So that's interesting of course.

In case you guys missed it, here is an interesting thread on what's ranking today.

Visit that website and take a look at their on-page SEO.
There are a few things to learn.
I can't do their link analysis as I don't have access to the paid tools. But if anyone has and has some extra time it would be interesting to see their link profile including anchor text.
