Google releasing a large update today

What am I missing with this page speed bs? I have a website that scores about 20 in the page speed score, but it has fast pages, scores are good in GSC in the green. I think Lighthouse data and chrome data are different. Chrome data is about your users, their connection 3g, 4g, cable, etc. If the majority of your users have a 3g connection and your website loads slow, you won't get that green pass in GSC.

Btw I did nothing for that site when it comes to speed, just slapped on an AdSense theme and caching tool that's it.

Our main website has speed optimization by our devs, lighthouse scores are 100 for both desktop and mobile and yet in GSC the urls are marked as slow lmao.

Have a read here: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2020/05/evaluating-page-experience.html

"While all of the components of page experience are important, we will prioritize pages with the best information overall, even if some aspects of page experience are subpar. A good page experience doesn’t override having great, relevant content. However, in cases where there are multiple pages that have similar content, page experience becomes much more important for visibility in Search."

Good content & backlinks is still more important, however if you're in a niche where websites have similar content, better page expierience wins for sure. Why would google give better spot for slowly performing website that has similar content over the same content with great page performance?

Fast website = Win in SEO and UX. Simple as that.

The problem with what you quoted from google is the contradictory experience we are seeing with the serps right now. I'm not even able to get the relevant queries when I search for something. Instead, I get something unrelated or with very thin content. Some of the sites even at the top of the serps have poor user experience and speed. Google has been saying this since the dawn of time "great content, fast speed, great user experience, E.A.T." meanwhile what are we seeing right now?

A bit off-topic but worth noting that DOJ is preparing a case against Google.

There are no details yet but the Fox Business reporter says that one of the reasons may be Google manipulating its search engine to the benefit of those who pay for advertising. From the top of my head, each time I search for a product I always see Amazon on top, I don't remember the last time I saw Walmart or Wayfair in the top 10.

This May algorithm update is really garbage.
When I searched for KN95 Mask, the top 2 was a website selling batteries, and masks were also provided.
The authoritative nursing product website: https://ihealthlabs.com/ is behind

Wow, huge news. Google confirms that various user engagement signals will become official ranking factors in 2021, such as:
- mobile-friendliness
- load time
- safe-browsing
-stability of content
-HTTPS
- intrusive interstitials

Yeah, the top results in my niche effectively debunk all this info.
My pages are the fastest on the first 2 pages, still they slipped down.

No matter what they tell you this is how STUPID and up to date(sarcasm), their algo(s) have become.
I had some extra time and googled 'free intraday data mini sp500'

Number one is from futures.io, an outdated THIN forum post from 2011 and the snippet goes like this:

Hey, Anybody find any free realtime intraday E-Mini S&P 500 Data? EOD just ain't cutting it and Kinetick wants something like \ a month for the.

They claim that BRET can understand the context of a long-tail query. It can NOT, it was too stupid to figure out that the question was about 'realtime data'. It completely ignored the 'realtime' and bad grammar. Tell me more about the so-called 'quality'...

The second is from firstratedata.com. That one is interesting, and the snippet looks like this:

Download 20 years of historical data for over 1000 tickers - 1 min and tick ... E-Mini S&P 500 Futures (ES)E-mini Nasdaq-100 Futures (NQ) ... Bundles aggregate multiple intraday data sets for a specific niche - for example our SP500 ... We update datsasets once per month and customers will be entitled to three free updates ...

Note what's bolded in the snippet, and when you go to that page you will NOT find Mini S&P 500 anywhere on that page, they took it from internal link under 'Futures' It's a collection of random sentences taken from the page and internal links to 'fit' the search query. This is how smart they are.

The next one is quant.stackexchange.com, not because they actually answer the search query, but they have some of the keywords in their internal links.

barchart.com has the highest authority and most probably would be a better choice than the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th position is down below with a snippet like this:

The historical data and Price History for S&P 500 E-Mini (ES*0) with Intraday, ... of web services APIs (JSON, XML and CSV formats) and a limited free service.

Again note what's bolded in relation to the search query and the order of the words. If they had that 'free' somewhere at the beginning of the snippet, most probably they would have had a higher position.

Here is the screenshot of the SERP

Search queries like this even though they don't have a lot of search volume if any teach about the inner workings of their algo(s) and what it looks on a page to rank it high or low.
