Google not indexing me

Is it normal that google indexes your backlinks but still takes quite some time to index your site?
I've Dugg my index and 5 subpages and all of the digg.com stories have been indexed about 24 hours ago. I've also submitted a sitemap to google and I've used RSSbot with my feed. Still, none of my pages are indexed.

Does anyone have any pointers for me?

how old your site is? be patience... and keep getting backlinks from other site. or submit to search engines... ;)
 
My domain is only about a week old. But the reason I asked was because I found it strange that they indexed so many of the sites I placed my backlinks on but they didn't index my site.
Sorry if it was a stupid question.
 
You also might wanna check out your robot.txt file. Sometimes (in my case wordpress) it blocks the spiders by default.

Use google webmaster tool to check all out
 
Also, if this is a blog make sure that your privacy settings in wordpress allow you to be indexed. See privacy settings in the dashboard
 
Generally if your domain is only a week old you are unlikely to get indexed yet - just be patient. Right now your digg submissions will be ranking higher simply from the fact that being it's on digg it has some value, whereas you site won't have built up any credibility yet.

The other thing worth mentioning is that digg itself is nofollow which basically means Google doesn't count the links or theoretically doesn't follow the links to your site. Overall some people are way too concerned with this and I believe Google sees a good natural mix of follow and no-follow links as natural and good vs trying to avoid this type, HOWEVER if all your links are no-follow you won't be getting a lot of link juice.

My best advice other than to keep link building is to make sure you are signed up to Google webmaster tools, validate your site, add a sitemap and let Google know about it.

Thanks for the replies. I am registered to G webmaster tools and I've submitted a sitemap and the crawler access says 200(success).
It's a basic html site though, and not a blog.
I'll keep building backlinks then. Thanks

Stupid question probably but have you pinged the pages on your main site ?
 
try creating a indenti.ca account join some groups and put ur link on your profile then ping it.

get some bookmarks on facebook,twitter and high traffic blogs

are you running a central nic domain ? .uk.com us.com etc?

i think indenti.ca is Nofollow now? :)
 
Another question is how much content does your site actually have? And is it original?
 
Well your domain is just a week old, so be patient and keep building quality backlinks and keep on adding unique content. Submit your site on few do-follow directories also, this will help in fast indexing of your web site.

I have pinged the index. Didn't want to overdo it because I don't know how tolerant google is to pings.
It's a .org domain and it currently has 6 pages of original content.
 
Google are pretty tolerant of it just dont spam ping.
 
Registered to identi.ca. Group member urls are nofollow but profile urls aren't.
Changed the bio on some old Goarticles and pinged them and added a new article to Ezine.
Hopefully it won't take long now.

Yes it is.

The homepage link on your profile page is the only link that isn't nofollow. All the other links to subscribers and groups are nofollow now, so while the link you put in the homepage box will be followed, your profile page doesn't carry any weight at all now. So using identi.ca now isn't going to help getting indexed any better than posting on any random forum.
