Google News Site Approved, needs serious SEO help.

Hi Mate,

I crawled your site. My suggestion is first you need to rank for generic keywords like today news, technology news, etc. Everyone will searching on google, bing like that for news.

So you can easily rank for daily posting topics by optimizing the meta title, description, heading, content.

Also I don't see the menus in my mobile. Otimize the site with UI level more. So that you can reduce the bounce rate of your site.

Also you must give the related news option at the bottom of each post.

Aside of all the tips you already got, I would suggest four things:
  • Speed, speed, speed. Load images faster by compressing them, converting to webp, using CDN (as you said you are doing), and in general improve the site as much as you can.
  • AMP. I don't know if your site use it but if not, try it, a lot of news site use it and personally most of the sites I read on Google News use it (also it improves your speed).
  • SEO. Well, maybe it is difficult to do SEO to articles like those but... if you have evergreen articles, rank them. Also, try to rank news category, not articles.
  • And the last one. News sites use a lot of social traffic. Use ads or better, contact influencers to promote you as much as you can (niche influencers!)

I did, we'll see. Also I ran the site through a few SEO Tools and backlink checkers these spammy links are a small percentage of our entire backlinks

You might not be familiar with Google News, they require the URLs to be 100% unique for articles, easiest way is to add the date.

so you still dont understand mod_rewrite, it used in them situations to get deply indexed with better worded links .

i no about a lot trust me.

do me a favour contact @t0mmy and ask him for a quote , best advise we can give you sorry.

Can you help me about click fraud on google? I did see your comments about dynamic dns.

Just like most sites on the net today, owners are building the site ass backwards. Think of a housing contractor, is it logical or even realistic to build a house from the roof down??? When creating a site/blog, you must have a solid foundation (enabling indexation, optimizing permalinks, G search console, G Analytics, creating sitemaps, Schema, etc etc).

From there, you will need to have solid On-page optimization (Responsive design, Tags - Title, Meta, H1, H2 etc...internal linking, speed optimization, valuable content)..... Then and only then should you be proceed to backlinks and other Off-page efforts.

Most site/blog owners put 75%+ of their efforts into Off-page SEO with minimal efforts On-page and then wonder why they're yielding shitty results from the SERPs. If I were you , I would consult with an SEO expert (you're on BHW, so finding someone shouldnt be that hard) and have them resolve current issues, while at the same time learning as much as possible to avoid future mistakes/oversights.

Hi everyone,

I manage a news site in Spanish, we target US Hispanics, and we cover celebrity news. We've been around for six years and have been in Google News for the past two years. However, our SEO is non-existent. We have tried everything, we have links from sites like Wikipedia and Huffington Post, all our social media (with about 70k followers between IG and FB) are set up, we have Schema.org setup but for some reason, we get less and less traffic daily.

We update twice a day so our content is fresh, it is also unique, we post video interviews with some of the top Hollywood actors promoting movies, etc.

My issue is, I don't know where to start. For example:

  1. While Schema.org is set up, none of our Schema shows up in the search result, don't know if this affects ranking.

  2. We don't have one specific keyword to try to rank for since they are news, the keyword changes constantly.

  3. If there is a technical SEO issue, or on-page issue, I wouldn't know where to start. I'm very technical but from all the guides I've read, I always get different answers.

  4. I'm currently working on setting up AWS CDN so I can offload the images to S3 to improve site speed. Is this worth it? Last week I setup Cloudflare + W3 Total Cache and GTMatrix speed improved.
Our AdSense revenue is also very low. Any help or insight please reply.

Thanks so much
I think a lot of people are suffering from this they call it shadow banning ever since the 2016 us election google is trying to punish websites or something thats what I read on the news forums a lot of news websites lost ranking and adsense money

Isint the traffic from google news big enough?
It used to be years ago, not anymore they only favor the major news websites and not smaller publishers. I used to put up like one or two articles a day and everytime Id post it id get so many traffic to my website and I was able to earn good money. my website no longer ranks for single keywords in my niche. I no longer appear in top stories and the traffic I get is like 50 visitors a day, 7 or 8 years ago I was getting 10 to 20 thousand visitors a day and making good on adsense.

Now ill be lucky to make 1 dollar a day its that bad.

Try to look for that keyword which has highest monthly search amongst the ranking keywords then target on that particular keyword
that doesnt work for google news, I think they rank different than regular search, in google news you have to frequently post articles a day, if you miss a few days your rank or visibility goes down, and than it takes like several days to regain that visibility of posting multiple daily articles.

I saw an update from someone and they said it is not going to be extremely hard to get traffic from google news, they consider status a ranking factor if you are a smaller blog or publisher you are going to be indexed but no visible on the top stories or first page of news, only websites like Time Magazine, ESPN, NY Times, huff po, etc will get that spot
