Google News Site Approved, needs serious SEO help.

Hi everyone,

I manage https://www.popticular.com/. We've been around for six years and have been in Google News for the past two years. However, our SEO is non-existent. We have tried everything, we have links from sites like Wikipedia and Huffington Post, all our social media (with about 70k followers between IG and FB) are set up, we have Schema.org setup but for some reason, https://imgur.com/a/Vvcl7xP.

We update twice a day so our content is fresh, it is also unique, we post video interviews with some of the top Hollywood actors promoting movies, etc.

My issue is, I don't know where to start. For example:

  1. While Schema.org is set up, https://imgur.com/a/1mi7tbU don't know if this affects ranking.

  2. We don't have one specific keyword to try to rank for since they are news, the keyword changes constantly.

  3. If there is a technical SEO issue, or on-page issue, I wouldn't know where to start. I'm very technical but from all the guides I've read, I always get different answers.

  4. I'm currently working on setting up AWS CDN so I can offload the images to S3 to improve site speed. Is this worth it? Last week I setup Cloudflare + W3 Total Cache and GTMatrix speed improved.
Our AdSense revenue is also very low. Any help or insight please reply.

Well I think your main issue is probably what you stated.

Being a news site you won’t predominately rank for anything because your articles and site is so far stretched.

Most people will have a news app on their phone or will search for their local online newspaper. I do.

I would suggest trying local SEO to get more people in your area engaged.

Social media is probably your best bet.

Do you have specific genres like celebrity news, local news, breaking news etc .

I have just seen you cover celebrity news when I copied your post.

You will have a lot of competitor as your keywords will likely be celebrity names.
 
Thanks for your reply. I understand that people have a news app or local newspaper. However through our research people that search for celebrities are not going to their local newspaper, they typically search for their choice on Google. That's why being indexed in Google News was a top priority for us.
 
Hi, i just visited your web, im newbie here but i have alot of experience with news website, try to found somes keywords and try to rank on it.... and spend money to work with Viral ( social media page insta,fb,twitter) u will get the traffic from it
 
you need to get that website up there in traffic .

you got no seo plan at all that digusting poor website , could be a winner .

your need to understand keyword research ,
how comes you dont see keywords from the each post you do on your website .

say you are doing a article on a person , how come you dont understand that person there self , are a massive keyword to get huge traffic ?

i think you need go back to basics and start understanding what keywords are .

once you do that use longtail pro to get even more keywords .

you can use google trends to get best keywords from articles you got now ...


to push traffic now while you get a plan on seo do it properly , it best you start doing blogs on the existing keywords and point to the article already on your website to get traffic .

website speed 100% seo needed.
must make sure website is fast .

use grate cache on wordpress plugin aswell

just looked to audit in my opioion

first ...

need the abilty to show your website off
in all lanuages can be done with google free ......

that top pull down bar useless get rid of it....

all images need optimizing for speed , you no that all ready ...

each article need x2 google adds not just 1 .... top you got now, ending you need like a banner .

your front page mainly images , i think you need more written content under the images to get clicks into the articles , need to click bait the audiance.

you need to work on web 2.0 , there around 800 websites you should join to get the traffic ....


promoting i think you need a fresh list to promote better you can get this using gsa application and a list addon ...i suggest member @loopline service for gsa list for more traffic .

Your non-www version is not redirecting to www or vice versa. This could be a big problem with duplicate content.

The url structure of date like name/2019/1/10/page is not the best.

A lot of short content without h2 tags etc will not help either!

well spotted so the linking structure also wrong my god ...

look up silo linking, that can 100% be your problam no link structure for seo...

look at this as your keword disgusting ?
why would you even think making a page link like that, that childs seo mistakes and very bad one .....!

Since it´s News based you can´t really Focus to Rank your Articles.
But with Solid Link Juice all your new Posts would rank Instantly.
I would focus to get those Strong Backlinks like Huff Post, forbes and all this shit, but it´s Expensive AF!
There are even so much strong News-Article-Submit sites for which you can write for.

I quickly Checked your SEO just a quick look. Man I see one you got links like topofblogs(dot)com and adidasfactoryoutlets(dot)com. Those are not valuable Sites and the links are not strong. Even the last one is Spammy. Could Negatively affect your site sooner or later.
 
what there saying really you need a in house seo or proper full time seo freelancer .

the seo mistakes are massive and it a shame ...


that website done well with all the mistakes, you should be killing it with traffic and people begging you for a link .

if you had seo in mind at the time of making the website and new what you was doing you be rolling in cash right now easly .

just a shame left 6 years in shit seo....

I dont know where you Ordered your Seo Services in February/March 2017 but it done so badly you should get your Money back and those links Removed.

what makes me mad how a website owner can have such a good assist sitting there 6 years gaining pennys lol , all over seo , drives me mad lol lol

lovly website just decaying needs love and attention , it would fetch a fortune ! done correctly

Thanks for your passion, the sites brings us income offline, we are very well established in our area and have access to major music labels and movie studios and we sell those interviews to news agencies, so don't be mad.
 
You might not be familiar with Google News, they require the URLs to be 100% unique for articles, easiest way is to add the date.


so you still dont understand mod_rewrite, it used in them situations to get deply indexed with better worded links .

i no about a lot trust me.

Ugh, I just went back and noticed someone in our team did hire someone for 'backlinks' and they deliver those crappy links, how can I remove them?
