I'm back to what I was before......
Went down for a few days, but back to normal.....so for me personally I've got something to work with....... hopefully......
Was scary when the traffic went off a cliff, but some new keywords are ranking, some top 3 posts have drooped to 4 - 7+ but the new gains have picked up the slack traffic wise....
looking at the data, I'm pretty sure the drop off in traffic was something unrelated to the update, but I'm still looking into it - if that is the case, I'll make sure it doesn't happen in the future...
Outranking TripAdvisor, Government and Regional Tourist Sites in some fairly competitive areas
Still two weeks to go, so not making any long term plans as of yet, but some things I can crack on with......been a bit of weird roller coaster so far....

None of this was because content was AI generated. None of our clients were affected, and at least half saw increases especially in local SEO.
This update was about low quality content that wasn't helpful, something I've been saying for years.
If all you're doing is firing up ChatGPT or whatever OpenAI wrapper you like and copying and pasting content then of course you're going to get hit.
But if you are actually working on your pages and focusing on information gain ***even for mass pages like what we do*** you'll be just fine or in even better position than before.

Agreed.
We massively revised our AI strategy and as a test I launched 2 new sites 3 days ago. Both a mix of human/AI.
One site is now ranked on page 3, for a 9,000 volume keyword. In 3 days. With AI content.
The penalty is on quality of content, regardless of how it's made.
AI needs to be used as a foundation, not used without oversight.

The penalty is NOT on quality of content... It is rather based on authority of the site and special deals with Google. Look at quora or reddit.
Sometimes you get poor quality article in top 10 just because it is published on "strong" website like forbes or other "know" about everything website.

Completely disagree. Those parasite pages got hit too. Quora and reddit I'm 100% sure got their affected algo manually turned up a bit. However, they are losing some of the rankings they once had now.

Nowhere have i seen where google can look at given content and tell if it is high quality or not. They may be able to tell if it has some keywords. They definitely can tell if it has at least AI in part. But they can’t tell directly what articles are more useful.
If they could, they wouldn’t have updates like HCU because they would already have known. If they could then you wouldn’t have parasite affiliate stuff on big sites outranking sites with far more useful pages.
This is all because Google can’t identify GOOD content so they settle on trying to identify and attack what they don’t like.

Right now, I'm not keeping count, but starting from the 25th of February to the present, I've published 32 Articles. I'm a family man; this is just my side stuff. Some days, I publish 2-3, and other days, I don't. I plan to get 100 articles within a month and then start link building. I applied for Adsense and within 6hrs, it was approved.
I partly agree with what you said. I agree about AI articles; like I said, it's the usefulness of the article that matters most. HOWEVER, Big G used this update to show more love to the BIGGIES out there, high DA sites. I think G wants to kill off many small bloggers.
I'm building 2 new sites, purely on AI-generated articles + Grammarly + human editing + AI images + COFFEE; I haven't submitted it to GA yet, but both sites are already ranking. so we'll see how this will all go.
I'll probably add a few more websites in the next few weeks.
In other news, my 8-9yr old health-related site that I thought was hit is actually getting more clicks now than before even with 50% impressions gone since the update. I haven't worked or updated ANYTHING on the site for over 2 years. I don't what gives...

Eh, I'm not sure it's so much that Google wants to kill off the smaller bloggers on purpose, it's just unintended consequences I think.
What Google's been going more to the past 5 years or so is branding, click data, and in some respects knowledge based trust.
What we've seen is our clients that have better branding ie better entity build out, more branded searches and clicks, are the ones that saw the most uplift.
One thing smaller bloggers don't do is branding and getting those branded searches, clicks and unlinked mentions.

Actually after doing more research, my site had little to no ai content. The reason it got hit is because it was a PAA type site (I bought this from someone, it had nice traffic)

Seriously man... don't waste time on it. How much you make at the moment? Think about value for money of what you do. How much time it costs you? Is it worth it?
