Google going down: People are turning away from Google Search

Do you guys remember lycos search? they were kicking it with altavista in the hay days, how the might have fallen.

Interesting and not surprising, i remember a thread not too long about about firefox making yahoo default search engine and many members saying things like 'ignore the hype they can never touch google' blah blah. I remember commenting saying they will make a dent.

And im glad they are because i seem to rank very well on yahoo. im not sure why, but i don't use a pbn, i don't purchase backlinks and i don't over optimize any content, everything i do on the sites that are ranking well in yahoo has been done 100% naturally.

Google is always lower the index the website. They create sub folders index, so fewer index and neater. It also makes it difficult to develop a website. Unless you do a traffic other than google, sepertic chat, instagram, facebook and twitter

Evlen though ranking in yahoo is much easier atm, imho one should probably prepare for google style updates since yahoo may start utilizing them to have better search results and get even more popular. If Yahoo starts getting alot of spam sites they will be putting more effort into their search algorithm.

Yeah i saw my hompe change to Yahoo by default, they are making the right moves
good for them

If you think people moving away from Google is a huge move then wait for around another 6 months when everyone also realizes that people have moved away from desktops for accessing the internet.

Although it has already happened the vast majority of website owners haven't noticed it yet but they will do. Within 6 months online forums will be alive with site owners first talking about how their sites income has dropped by 40% - 60% then the conversation will move on to the realization that more traffic is coming from mobile devices (phones/tablets) before it then moves on to panic as people scramble for a solution to the problem.

1) Problem realized
2) Cause of problem realized
3) Solution to problem discovered

Imagine this problem being similar in size as when Google first released its furry animals upon us.

The internet just changed but no one has noticed yet.

If Google ever lost serious ground (doubtful) it would definitely be better for the internet. However, it would NOT be better for us. Think about it...as it stands now, we just have to figure out how one search engine operates and what it looks for (albeit that is somewhat fickle and moving target). Imagine if we had to concentrate on 3, 5, or more "baby Bells" if Google were ever split up or if serious competition heats up.

It depends on the niche, some niches people can't really look at on their phones out in public. One of my adult sites gets like 90% pc and 10% mobile.

That is very true. There will always be some teenager/young adult access adult sites from the privacy of their bedroom and due to the increasing number of mobile devices and the decline in desktops the number of these teenagers will continue to rise....along with sales of tissues :)

For those of you who never saw a WWW without Google controlling it, maybe this is your chance. It used to be a lot more fun ;)

Google's search share has fallen below 75% for the first time since 2008, according to statistics from StatCounter.
The US market drop is a stark reflection of Yahoo's small but notable resurgence, as well as Bing's bold attempts to stay in the game. Together, the search engines are chipping away at Google's 10-year dominance and clawing back percentages.
Jan. 2015 saw Yahoo take back search share for two consecutive months: it has risen from 10.4% in December to 10.9% in the new year. It marks a significant growth. In November, Yahoo's stake stood at just 8.6%. It's good news for CEO Marissa Mayer, who made Yahoo's search functionality one of the main areas to improve. It seems this part of her plan is working.
Bing's growth is less decisive, but worth mentioning. From Dec. 2014 to January this year, its share has dropped by 0.1%, but the company has seen its search share rise from 12.1% to 12.4% overall.

that's cute, not sure if half percent growths are really matter though and if we are thinking in tendencies, here's just two which will help Google to sustain their hegemony against Yahoo or anybody for that matter:
1. mobile only gets stronger and stronger, the global android market share is increasing (~75%), windows mobile market share is decreasing (~5%) which already wasn't too much to begin with
2. firefox usage decreases, chrome usage increases even on desktop (if we agree that the main reason behind Yahoo's sudden market share increase was caused by Firefox switching default search engines)

Google is just too big by now to be afraid of anybody, they are a lot more than just a search engine, they can afford such investments that almost nobody could do before, they're planning to bring internet with project loon to the rest of the world where there were no internet access before, which is the 2/3rd of the world's population, you can imagine what will happen when this becomes reality, you can take your bets who will profit the most from this, that won't be Yahoo, Google is thinking on a much bigger scale

Google is here to stay, not going anywhere, especially not down

I was just about to get in here and tell everyone how crazy it is to believe Google's search engine is going to drop by large percentages. Google is only going to go up. Beat me to it

Real competitors for google is amazon, ebay...etc. They're killing the revenue of google from search engine. Now a days people directly going to amazon and looking for products they want.

I've said it many times, Google is not the only one - it is one of the most important search engines from the web but is not the only one - on the other hand will not be the Black Hat that will take it down but will be the greed and the way of how they are treating their customers advertisers and searchers.
For us as Black Hat users this has to make us diversify the methods because what is working on Google is not working on Bing and Yahoo for example, therefore we have to have more ingenuous ideas (and I'm sure that some of us are already able to do it).
Thanks OP for bringing this on the table, will take more time to equalize the "power" on the searching engines but step by step we can get there.

As a company Google will not just vanish in to thin air but their share of the search market is set for decline. Exactly how much that will be in percentage terms is yet to be seen. Google has very deep pockets and a very diverse range of products that are tied to each other in some way.

Some may fee it's naive to think Google will ever lose any sizable share of the search market while others feel its naive to think Google will always be king of the hill. The truth is 99.9% of us have no way of knowing what how things will change and what technologies will emerge, seemingly, out of no where.

Google, Apple, Amazon, plus others are large players in a market that is wide open to change and manipulation and it will always remain open in this way simply due to the Billions of Dollars that's available to the company who makes the right moves at the right time.

You and I, we're nothing more than chess pieces in all of this because what ever happens we will be the ones who adapt to the changes that are coming towards us regardless of what they are.

They should change their algorithms back to how used it be. Obviously putting big brands on page one and trying to force every other fucker to PPC isn't working.

true that my friend. It seems like every top10 result on Google has either an Amazon or a freakin Wikipedia page.

I've used Google for forever and a half and I have yet to notice a difference. I'll most likely continue to use it until it explodes my computer to be honest. hahaha
