Out of curiosity, what good will the end result be if all of a sudden yahoo and bing have the same search share as google?
In my opinion it would just mean more work and hassle for us. If yahoo and bing grow enough to compete with google, theyre going to take their SE much more seriously, which means more dedication to fighting webspam.
Not only will they fight webspam, but their penalty algorithm probably wont be identical to Googles, resulting in having to separately worry about being penalized by yahoo and bing on top of our efforts to avoid G's penalty.
So instead of building a website and doing SEO work towards it doing well by googles guidelines, you would then have 3 separate guidelines to worry about which will results in a huge clusterfuck of "penalized by google and yahoo, but bing is fine, what do i do?" threads.
2-3 separate search engines that share the traffic is only going to be tougher for us to crack. I understand the advantage of not having all your eggs in 1 basket, but it's just going to be frustring to appease to 3 search engines instead of needing to focus on 1.
