The company was ordered by the European Commission on Wednesday to pay €4.34 billion ($5 billion) for unfairly pushing its apps on smartphone users and thwarting competitors.

It said that Google paid some large smartphone makers and network operators to install apps on phones before they were sold. It also prevented manufacturers from selling devices running on alternative versions of its Android operating system.

I'm guessing the upper levels in the E.U weren't happy with their commission checks.

I wish they would do that in the U.S and force them to take all of their bloat software of the phones. Half the google apps on the android phones is useless bloat.
 
They will have to offer new Android users a choice of search app and browser, and 99.99% of people will just choose Google and Chrome anyway. All that time and effort spent by the EU to make people do one more click.
 
Any big corporation would end up like this, I think they have kept budget aside for such things.
 
This will be going through the courts for years, they might not even end up paying it. EU knows that. Its partly for show as a deterrent to big business. Glad they are doing something though.

I have always wondered, what benefit do they get from all these bloatware installed on phones?

There is no benefit... it is just a big joke that the Google guys have just to mess with our collective minds.

Typically Google's bloatware does not have any advertising etc on it... how are they benefiting aside from branding or is it just a branding play?
 
Personally i am fan of google software.

Compare a nexus android with samsungs android. You'll see wht im talking about
