I read a few things here and there last couple of weeks saying that on 10 Jan. 2017 google will officially punish websites showing popups, because they are annoying for the end user.
I personally have never used popups aggressive on my website, if I use them I limit to 1 popup/under for 24h/user .
I found nothing about this important topic so I'm starting this discussion for tips and tricks and ideas exchange.

I tested this on a small blog and some of my KW decreased positions after 2-3 days, so now I have removed the popads and will see if the ranking comes back.

There is a thread on another forum with the initial WF where it was discuseed. I had to be covert not sure how BHW views them.

They discussed it and some webmasters with websites reported some major decreases. It seems that it is still playing into the algorithim, but seems to be fully live.

Pop-ups are very annoying and usually used on dodgy/unethical websites, so can't see this as bad news for genuine people?

Anyone having change in their SERPs ?

read the official google blog:

"January 10, 2017 update: Starting today, pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as high. As we said, this new signal is just one of hundreds of signals that are used in ranking and the intent of the search query is still a very strong signal, so a page may still rank highly if it has great, relevant content"

So, this update was applied for mobile search and mobile site version, because popups interfere users to see content. For Desktops I haven't seen such information.
