Google Deindexed 50K+ Links — What’s Going On?

Looking for some insight from the pros here.


We originally had around 100,000 total URLs on our site — mostly user-submitted listings for used items. For a while, ~50,000 of those were indexed by Google without issue.


But about a month ago, we noticed a sudden shift. Google started bulk deindexing our URLs. The number of indexed links dropped from ~50K to under 10K, and it’s still declining weekly.


There haven’t been any major changes in our content structure, sitemap, or robots.txt. Crawl stats still look healthy, and our server is stable.


Could this be:

• A site quality or thin content issue?
• Too many near-duplicate pages?
• Core update impact?
• Indexing system shift on Google’s end?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with mass deindexing or has ideas on recovery strategies.

Seen this happen before — sounds like a classic case of Google reevaluating site quality or running a quality threshold check post-core update. Even if crawl stats look fine, Google might have flagged large portions of your site as low-value or thin, especially with lots of similar or outdated listings.

I'd start by auditing your indexed vs. non-indexed pages and looking for patterns (content length, duplication, user value). Also worth checking if internal linking is strong enough across those listing pages.

It's not ai or thin content issue. It's just Google is gone insanely stupid.
They de indexed my legit website with thousands of backlinks from tier 1 sites like fornes, nytimes, theverge, cnn, bbc, etc...

It could be related to a core update, especially if your site content or structure didnt align with Google new ranking signals
