There are a lot of child themes in the Downloads section which basically give your site the original "feel". However the themes are easy to customize through wordpress widgets and other "Genesis Simple" (search in wordpress plugin database) plugins to remove footer links, meta... Plus, they load very fast. I know HTML, CSS and all that, but I havent really coded anything as the theme offers everything I wanted to change.

There are a bunch of free themes online , default one works as well. You have to look man and pick the one you prefer.

you can try free themes provided by mythemeshop. There themes are very fast SEO optimized. You can also try themes from WordPress theme directory like iconic one etc.
