Hi!

I'm very new to the forum as a member and still trying to figure things out. I've been browsing the forum for several months but only recently decided to make an account ^^.

I gathered some information about keyword research from several posts and decided to give it a go, but my results where so surprisingly "good" that I think I might have messed up somewhere...

Some examples (keywords are related to the same topic).

Keyword 1: CPC: ?4.55 - Monthly searches: 1220000 - Competition: Low

Keyword 2: CPC: ?1.34 - Monthly searches: 40500 - Competition: Low

Keyword 3: CPC: ?1.95 - Monthly searches: 40500 - Competition: Low

Keyword 4: CPC: ?2.65 - Monthly searches: 33100 - Competition: Low

Keyword 5: CPC: ?1.79 - Monthly searches: 22200 - Competition: Low

Keyword 6 (this can't be right?): CPC: ?12.29 - Monthly searches: 12100 - Competition: Low

These are not long tail keywords, might that be the "problem"?

There are several other ?1+ 2000+ searches keywords relating to this topic as I just downloaded the whole list from the Google keyword tool :).

The first keyword is more of a "brand" name (not selling any product though, just information for free), but the links on page 1 don't look very "solid" (itunes download page/ google chrome download page etc) except for the main page (which also doesn't look very professional, more educational).

Almost forgot to mention this, but the Google keyword tool's settings were pretty much set on global (no restrictions).

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me figure this out :). I would love to know if I did something wrong and where I should change things.

Where do you get that "low" competition from? If it is from adwords it is referring to the advertisers competition about this keyword not how easy it is for ranking.

Thank you both very much for your replies :).

I always thought that the "low competition" in Adwords stood for not many high ranked websites competing ><. Oke, mistake 1 :). I suppose the low competition = what I meant with very easy to outrank websites has to come from analysing the google page itself?

Basically what you are saying is high competition in adwords is good + high CPC? My thoughts before reading your comments where low competition + high CPC is good... :l

Yes, high competition in adwords + high CPC means you can make a lot of money with that keyword. But keep in mind that the most profitable niches are usually the hardest to rank for.

Like others have said, this is adwords competition, for SEO competition, install market samurai (you have 40 day trial version) and check on there, that way you will find out.

Cheers

What you are looking for is high competition from adwords and low ranking competition. spyfu.com can get you an idea about the ranking difficulty (notice that it's only a tool and it can be often wrong, some easy comp are not easy at all).

Thank you all very much for your help/ feedback :). This really gives me a much better understanding of what to look for/what not to look for.

The sites you guys linked look very interesting, I'm definitely going to read them through very thorougly! :D
