I hope every single on of you reading or not reading is on its path and doing well

ignore semi rant below I was pissed at work. Basically my WP based site got wiped in the hosting migration process on godaddy.

is there any chance retrieving something (which I doubt) or should I just let them know “good job for killing my business” and move on? I appreciate any advice or answer so I could get it straight and cope with it and move on to a new project and sleep peacefully.

long story short, I’ve made plenty of upgrades in the past since I host multiple websites on my GoDaddy hosting and due to one automated website that I currently don’t plan to use digitalocean for and need more resources I’ve upgraded once again

this time the migration really is a mess
I’ve made the upgrade Saturday night and yesterday (when everything was set) whoop. An email regarding crawling issues appears.

I wasn’t surprised the IP’s they gave me via email weren’t correct. I have checked the hosting and grabbed the new IP to update everything on cloudflare

when it came to my main most resource consuming (money included) it was gone.
403 forbidden.

I’ve headed to pub and found out the folder is completely wiped. It’s the first website on the list since it starts with an ‘A’ so I’m sure the migration was the only reason since plenty others were just fine.

no backups (they were in the folder) so completely gone. Basically not a trace
Lesson learned to backup locally once again but that’s not the point

is there anything GoDaddy can do on their side besides wasting days on chat and phone? Have anyone experienced this before? I mean I’ve had domain issues and also read relatable stories but that’s a different one.

im paying damn $69.99/month
As soon as everything indexed is well it became a money maker and at the same time it’s gone.

contacting support right now this way or another but have anyone had the same issue? If so, how it went? Cause I’ve had quite a lot of time wasting conversation resulting at domain losses.

huge thanks in advance

Sorry to hear that..
Just to clarify.. you did a migration or plan upgrade ... normally when you are just upgrading to higher plan .. the hosting provider is pumping the resources of the current plan... no migration required.
Is your Godaddy plan wiped-out? @iAmHyBreed . Ask them for backups (hope they have such).

As a rule of thumb.. you should always generate your own backups regardless if your hosting provider is providing such option. Better safe than sorry..

Nothing you can do. But be patient with them so they will be patient with you, there is a chance that the original files were not wiped or some kind of mistake happened.
Sometimes things like this can really happen and its no ones fault.

GoDaddy should have backups. Keep a cool head with their support and you should be able to get the backups. Even a shity host like GoDaddy has some standards in place for backups. Probably avoid GoDaddy in the future though, and keep local backups and cloud backups. Hopefully, it all works out and you get your site back up and running! There are potential options to rebuild your site from archives etc in a worst-case scenario as well (hopefully).

Remember to be friendly to the support staff, it works better.

For the price you are paying, I would expect daily back ups. On my 'cheap' hosting with Hostinger, I get weekly backups yet sometimes is does 2 or 3 a week and after any major changes I make, I do a manual back up.

I feel your pain though and I would be peed off as well but as leechesBleechin says, try to stay calm and friendly.

I appreciate your reply
I did an upgrade from their “enhance” to “grow” (forgot to mention so I’ll edit it, basically more CPU’s etc. like 90GB to 120 | 4GB RAM to 6...)

No migration needed for sure but I did get their message saying the migrating to a better whatever it was but yeah a few websites were unavailable for a good while then back online

after two days I needed to update my records on cloudflare’s side to point to the new server IP

Yeah and you’re right mistakes can happen and nobody’s safe but I mean if I was GoDaddy, I’d sure do put a system in place for such cases (even backups for any website no matter what in case it would upgrade in the future if money is the motive)

but I’m actually reconsidering popping up the chat window again ASAP.
Thanks for the reply brother

Solid advice and action to take on it
I thought about the backups and mentioned it above

If I were them, the very least I’d do is implement hidden backups tied to each top tier hosting renter’s user in case things go south
Will do as well for shared hosting but that’s another story

mom actually friendly almost all the time with domain/hosting related support/staff so that would be no issue but a solid tip we should keep preaching though so I appreciate it!

I should actually put some effort reaching support I just think a day doesn’t have enough hours since I’m always productive you feel what I’m saying? Thanks for the encouragement brother

I couldn’t agree more. I think the same and can’t point the reason I didn’t choose hostinger and stayed with godaddy but it’s overwhelming knowing that a hosting company actually cares this much for their business and (Returning) clients’ relations

I should do backups for every website I make from now on I appreciate your reply and there’s a lot of things I’m glad you made think to myself and reconsider
