I ordered some domains from godaddy buy it now. This is for a PBN. paid with my debit card. Now they emailed me, asking for a copy of my drivers license. if I dont provide this in the next 48 hours, they will suspend my account.

I dont feel too comfortable doing this because the idea of a PBN is a kind of shady and blackhat.

Has this godaddy verification ever happened to anyone else? did you send your ID? is it safe?

That's not shady, that's something almost every huge company in the world do, they buy links, they buy sites with great links and redirect them to their sites, they build PBNs and so on...

My Godaddy account is around 10 years old so never have had this problem. But if you don't like to give your Driving License then just buy domains from other place like Namecheap. Only down side is you loose couple of dollars.

They also asked for my id cards when I bought a domain from them . Never dealt with them again .

I had same issue with GoDaddy few months ago, I bought a domain, and then they asked me to give them ID, driver's license and picture of my cc, then I simply turned to namecheap right away. Also, godaddy's support is awful :)

I also had similar experience with them, so I had to send them snapshot of my card. From that time I have limited myself to register domains from them. Godaddy is the shittiest domain registrar, you better use namesilo or namecheap.

I was thinking that too ha ha!

You want shady, go behind the scenes of a company like Google, Esso, Wall Mart or Tesco ha ha!

I think your license will be find with them, get your domain transferred from them asap afterwards though!

Your DL information will be safe with them, don't worry.

That usually happens when you make "suspicious" purchases (maybe you were on a VPN or proxy from a different country when you were paying?) or if you make a couple purchases in a row with the same account.

Also, I would recommend NameSilo for your domains. They charge $9 per domain, and you get a $1 discount you can use as many times as you want if you use Retail Me Not's coupon code "RETMENOT". There are also other coupon codes for bulk purchases of domains with them, Google "NameSilo coupon codes" and you'll find them. They offer free WHOIS privacy which is why I recommend them. :D

    This will be a shame.

    1$ domains were nice

same thing happend to me. I used different emails to get their coupons. I actually replaced some of the letters from my name also.

Got the same email regarding 48 hour , and that they would cancel the order.

Now here is the interesting part. I just ignored it completely, and I still have the domain. This worked for me several times , but success is not guaranteed for you.

5 mins of social engineering over the phone I could have anyones domains. I'm glad they are taking ID's.

What I mean about 5 mins having your domains is simply this. Godaddy requires a name and 4 digit pin. Well you can Whois the name associated with the account and a four digit pin can be guess within 4-12 phone calls.

I'm morally intact and don't do these things but upping security and knowing these loopholes is important for my own protection when buying things online.

they're checking your id because you're probably in a different country. If you used us proxies you'd be good

I wouldn't worry about sending them my ID, but I definitely wouldn't trust them with my domains.

Just make sure you don't break laws or host pirated content etc.

Blackhat seo isn't illigal aslong as it complies with laws so there's no problem.
