Godaddy closeout API bot

Hey, I have an important question.

There's a bit of a heated discussion over at domaining forums about hugedomains apparently sniping GD closeouts with perfect efficiency, even though godaddy says they give hugedomains the same API allocation as anyone else.

Things need to be investigated. Has anyone here made or used a godaddy closeout bot to try and snipe domains? Your success rate with the bot could help resolve this discussion.

Keep in mind, we're not talking about auctions. Only closeouts.

to keep out of business reputation they use a 3rd party business to use bots to win domains 100%

it defently going on in or out the office .

it way way underground but it happening 100%

if a domain company no of a domain that can make them big money, there no way there let it just go in front of them, it doesn't matter how they get it, there soon have it full stop...

that the problem with big companies they can open sub companies to buy when need to very scary shit .

the little guys never beat the big boys ever .

When efficient bots are competing for a limited supply, microseconds count. At that scale of time difference, having a server physically closer than the competitors can be a major advantage. Case in point, just look at "sneaker bots" and the various servers/tools/proxies surrounding that industry.

Oddly enough, I trust GoDaddy's statement that they are granting the same API access, I really don't believe they would code in an advantage that could be discovered by others. But if GD gave HD a server in the same datacenter, that would give them a huge advantage while leaving an element of plausible deniability.
 
How does the closeout domain situation work? Its available after its dropped? Just before? or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Not only are GD and HD close, but they actually share the same building. Their office is next to one another. That is a major advantage.

However, seeing how GD has given their API access to a multitude of people, shouldn't HD, at the very least, not win the majority of the closeouts? Most of the snipes should be evenly distributed among the others. I don't know how the math of the server speed works out tho.

The best way to test this would be empirically, with a bot, hence my question. I don't think anything could be gathered by examining their api or any something like that. You never know tho. Finding this information out could have a lot of impact on the domaining industry.

Imagine there's a store in your town that holds a race on random days and times, awarding money to the first person to arrive.

Now let's say you live in an apartment above that store, and almost everyone else who regularly participates in that race lives on the other side of town. When the race begins, who is going to reach the store first? Since you live within a few feet of the finish line, you should be among the first to finish virtually every time.

The store did absolutely nothing to give you an unfair advantage, they are not giving you any earlier notice or preferential access, they are making you follow all the same rules as everyone else. Since you are consistently the first to arrive, then statistically you should be the one with the most wins. You do have a clear advantage in this scenario, but the store was uninvolved in creating that situation.

That's what's going on here, HD is simply the 'first to arrive' by being the neighbor of GD. When they have a ping of well below 1ms, they are consistently going to win the race against competitors who have ping rates of ~5ms or more. The advantage is clear, and intentional, but there's no clear evidence that GD is the one who created it.

What you say makes perfect sense. However, I've talked with a few programmers. Some good, allegedly. None of them have suggested this although I've told them that they work in the same building (the implication of that was that they are cooperating, nothing about servers being close together). Why do you think that is? This seems too obvious, so how come no one has suggested this?

I can't speak to the opinions of others, but the underlying principle is well documented regarding high-speed bots for sneakers, stock market, forex, etc.

I guess the most reasonable explanation is that the average programmer doesn't work with sniping and dropcatching so they might know what's up. Someone on BHW would know. I've mentioned this to two others and they said the fact that they share the same building might not mean they're on the same servers or close by. But that doesn't make sense, does it? They must be. It works so perfectly between the two of them.

Is there any way to find where their servers are located or is it just 99%+ likely that they are?

EDIT: Also, this depends on the API limitations, doesn't it? For example, GD says they limit the API to 60 calls per second. If this means 1 call per second, others would have a good chance, right? But it it meant firing off 60 requests whenever within a minute, they stand no chance. Have I got this correctly?
