    Hello everyone,

I'm sure all of us are dealing with anchor text choices at some point (some of us on a daily basis lol).

The main problem these days is that people go too aggressive with Emas (Exact match anchors) and other closely related anchor types and soon face over-optimization.

(sometimes the niche requires it but if you're just guessing you're done)

Here are lists of URL and Branded anchor texts that will make your overall anchor ratio look way more natural.

All of these examples I stumbled upon during website audits so they are all in action.

Our example will be Cool Brand located at coolbrand.com owned by Robert Smith

    URL:
    Code:
    http://www.coolbrand.com/
    http://www.coolbrand.com
    httpwww.coolbrand.com
    httpwwwcoolbrand.com
    httpcoolbrand.com
    http://www.coolbrand/
    http://www.coolbrand
    http://wwwcoolbrand
    www.coolbrand.com/
    www.coolbrand.com
    www.CoolBrand.com
    wwwCoolBrand.com
    coolbrand.com/
    coolbrand.com
    CoolBrand.com

    Brand:
    Code:
    Cool Brand
    CoolBrand
    cool Brand
    Coolbrand
    cool brand
    coolbrand
    cb
    CB

    Name:
Alternatively, anchor text can also be a person representing it for example Mark Zuckerberg for Facebook.com. This type of anchor text is great for blog comments for example.

    So in our case:
    Code:
    Robert Smith
    RobertSmith
    robert smith
    robertsmith
    RS
    rs

    Combos:
All of the above can be combined with each other, your main keywords and misc phrases. In case of combining them with keywords be careful as the keyword is present.

    Here are some examples:
    Code:
    Cool Brand http://www.coolbrand.com/
    Cool Brand coolbrand.com
    Cool Brand at coolbrand.com
    coolbrand.com keyword
    keyword review by Cool Brand
    checkout Cool Brand
    Robert Smith at CoolBrand.com
    CoolBrand by Robert Smith
    etc.

    But what about parasites dude?

I love to stuff my parasites with keywords and I don't own the brand!

    I'm glad you asked!

Parasites can be a little tricky true, but still doable.

    Parasite:
    Code:
    https://www.facebook.com/pg/lovelykeyword/
    https://www.facebook.com/pg/lovelykeyword
    www.facebook.com/pg/lovelykeyword
    facebook.com/pg/lovelykeyword
    Facebook.com/pg/lovelykeyword
    Facebook Lovely Keyword
    FB Lovely Keyword
    FB LovelyKeyword
    Facebook
    FB

Yes, Facebook is very natural and expected anchor text.

    And EMDs?

EMDs are a little tricky. Even more tricky than parasites as your "brand" equals keyword.

That's why URL variations and acronyms are the safest to use for EMDs.

    Example:
    lovelykeyword.com

    EMD:
    Code:
    http://www.lovelykeyword.com/
    http://www.lovelykeyword.com
    http://lovelykeyword.com/
    http://lovelykeyword.com
    www.lovelykeyword.com/
    lovelykeyword.com/
    www.lovelykeyword.com
    lovelykeyword.com
    LK
    lk
    LovelyK
    LKeyword

While these ideas might seem as a no-brainer for some people, you wouldn't believe how many requests I get to help with anchor text de-saturation as a PBN rental service owner.

Also, don't forget about misc and LSI anchor text types as these can help with diversification as well.

What is the best way to keep track of anchor text ratios? And also are anchor text ratios measured site wide (entire domain) or each individual page?

Actually it's great if a provider takes time to come back and suggests alternatives, to avoid any penalties. I'd me more inclined to go back to such a service.

Great question. I believe most people go by Ahref + what they know behind the scenes.
This is something that could always shift though. Regarding sitewide, we would never know how G sees the 'count', I'm wondering myself.

I wouldn't do Facebook anchors to an unrelated website though

    Well, spreadsheets to be honest...

However, there is a tool coming out soon that lets you do the same and it checks your links every 24 hours.

    https://linkokay.com

Friend invited me to Beta and it's pretty cool (needs a few tweaks here and there)

As far as I'm concerned Google only counts one link when it comes to site-wides. The first one it finds.

    Pls, see above.

Thanks man. That's exactly what we do actually :)

Yes, but Ahrefs, Majestic etc weakness is that it depends on their index what they show you. And it's limited what they can crawl. As you know most people block their PBN etc.

Really the surest way is to track your linkbuilding manually. Or use the tool like the one I shared.

Unless you're negSEOed. Then these tools come in handy.

Great post. I generally make a habit of mixing up variations on the "same" URL (http://, https://, http://www., https://www., etc.). It definitely logically seems like the ideal approach to backlinking, since people definitely link to the same page in a number of different ways. It would be nice to have some harder evidence on the impact of this type of backlinking. If anyone has any good case studies or links to useful articles, would be glad to read them.

Also, additional variation like those in the original post:
    • coolbrand.com/ vs. coolbrand.com/index.php vs coolbrand.com/index.html
    • coolbrand.com/index.php vs. coolbrand.com/index.php?ref=arbitrarystring (and other arbitrary URL/GET variables)

To keep track, I just go for a lot of brand and URL anchor text and one or two exact match anchor text here and there once in awhile.

    Good point.

Varying the URL itself might be useful as well.

When we look at the google.com itself, the http://www.google.com dominates and is shortly followed by http://google.com. Then follows SSL www version.

The safest way is usually to analyze your competition and mimic what they do.

    Thank you.
