Hi Everyone,

Post number one :) I have been on the forum a few times and I noticed some interesting posts from knowledgeable marketers. I have a quick question on arbitrage, seeing previous posts on the topic some may say one question too many, anyways... A little background.

I was buying traffic for some big ecommerce sites, PPC, and one day I noticed a drop in cvr from a campaign that had performed well. I was about to pause it when I investigated the traffic source (all campaigns are supposed to be search network only with partners disabled) and I found a few similar sites.

It is a very interesting site, draws clicks CPM and resells through Bing search, well designed website with almost no content. Up until the moment I shut him off, he was making £21k/month just with one keyword. Clearly out of this 0 conversions or so. Quite interesting display content, if you click on something he or she retargets on other sites, sometimes with a different creative. Now when I see his Ads, I click on something just as a token of appreciation for being smart...

Fast forward a few weeks, new job, new client with a much larger budget. Client is pretty dumb despite the massive budget. They have unconstrained Adsense even if they are selling some pretty common product with all their competitors advertising the same product they are selling right next to checkout. Hardly best practice!

Anyhow, one day I notice my old friend. It is worth saying that the case mentioned before is in the insurance vertical, this one is travel... So funny, I see one of his Ads whilst checking out the site, you following me or am I following you? I click on the ad and I land on the page I had uncovered earlier and what stands there side by side all of my current competitors?

My ad! I knew from before that this comes from the Bing ad network and I also know that right now this kind of traffic is minimal (%wise) but I have been trying to stop this. Senior execs are pretty incompetent otherwise they would not have waited for me to come to pull their ads from right wing blogs and they would have delved deeper into the display garbage on their site... Mirror like situation

Would like to hear some comments on this, such sites were very aggressive in the financial vertical, right now am referring to only one site but when I first discovered it there were three of them. I do not have many people I can talk about this with, moving in the programmatic trading space soon but would still like to hear some thoughts on this...

Hello and welcome! Interesting topic for the first post...can you fill us in in more detail how does his site looks like, from what I have understood he has s nice looking site with Bing ads that he lands his CPM campaigns to, with some sort of clickjacking mechanism that forwards you to another site with yet another set of keywords and bing ads?

Hi, thank you! Yes, it is something like this one (there are hundreds of similar sites) they look like search engines...
search centurylink com (doesnt allow me to post links...)
Depending on context you land on a legal/travel/insurance or banking related landing page with related ads that are simply Bing ads. You do not get redirected but simply land there and then once there you may or may not click. Have you come across such sites before?

You are welcome! No, I haven't that's why I am curious. Are you sure that centurylink (.) com is the right address, as it leads me to some small ISP? They do have a search, but Bing ads are nowhere to be found...BTW, I am not in US, that might be the reason for missing ads.
