    Hey,

I have been using the G00gle keyword tool, and I read in a guide that I am to use the Exact option when doing keyword research.

Now, my question is, is this showing the correct number of searches because, I put in "make money" for the exact option, and, well it says there are only 60k monthly searches, I find that rather hard to believe, where as, if I use the broad option, it comes back with 2.7 million global searches, which sounds more on the button.

So, when doing keyword research, which option should I use, Broad or Exact?

    Thanks

    I want to add:
The broad match for make money means that any combination of words that includes these 2 ones is possible. For example:

i want to make a special case for my money
    make money easy
    money can make you happy
    etc.

Always use "exact" but use broad to find out the popularity of the niche.

Use exact for identifying and buying domain names. Can't tell you how many times I've forgot to select exact and ended up with a domain I thought was going to kill it only to realize I had used the broad category which overstated the traffic by a factor of a million or so. Grrrrr...

Thanks all, I'll search only exact from now on!

Broad and Phrase match are helpful to know when you are bidding on Adwords keywords but if you are researching keywords for SEO, Broad and Phrase match are 100% USELESS.

For example, the two phrases "how to make money online" and "what's a good way to make money" would both contribute to the total count for "make money". But if you search for these two phrases, you can easily see that the #1 ranking site is different for both termd.

Just use common logic... do you think the exact same website is going to rank #1 for EVERY SINGLE term that uses the phrase "make money"? Of course not! Your page is only going to get traffic for the exact term you optimize it for, nothing more

So it should be blatantly obvious that there is definitely NO value whatsoever in using Broad or Phrase match for estimating organic traffic. Any "guru" who advocates the use of anything other than Exact Match for SEO has NO IDEA wtf they are talking about
