He actually developed his own money generator.
People trusted him with their money while he spent their money. Why didn't anyone think of that before?

One $16m batch of funding from Alameda was used in part to purchase of an apartment in the Bahamas for Michael McCaffrey (ex-CEO of The Block), where FTX is headquartered.

If FTX hadn't gone bankrupt, it would probably never have been publicized and the ex-CEO of The Block would have just carried on.

They just pretend to be weirdos. They knew full well what they were doing. They bought a bunch of solid assets while the world was throwing money at them. We know about the Bahamas real estate. But they probably got shit all over the world.
