Hey guys, this is a neat little method I discovered to get a free subscription to Rdio which if you have not heard of, is a similar site to spotify. Yes I realize I am posting this on BHW and yes most people (including me) just download music anyway. However if you are interested it is actually quite handy having it especially if you can't be bothered making playlists etc. Technically this method is not free it requires a whopping $9.99 and that is all that is required. OK lets get started... Rdio have an artist programme that helps artists by giving them a way to promote their music etc. with that artist programme comes a complimentary Rdio subscription! I set this all up about four-five months ago and can confirm it is not a trial or temporary, you can use it and download music to listen to offline and there are no ads or anything plus the music is pretty decent quality. So what are we going to do? become a musician!... sort of the first step is you must create some original audio, you can not upload some random song you downloaded that someone else wrote as you could run into legal issues for stealing or get banned or something. you have been warned by me... just don't. What I did was because I am a musician was just write up some crappy piece of music, but you can do anything just get drunk one night and sing a random tune (must not be a cover) or tell a short story into your laptop microphone or if you have a headset that will work, possibly even your phone but all audio must be 16bit (sample Size) 44.1kHz (Sample Rate), Stereo WAV file in order for them to be accepted. If you are using your laptop to record (mac, pc, whatever) you can use a free program to record called Audacity, its basic but it does the job. If you need help setting up or using it let me know I'm happy to help. Step 2: Once you have your masterpiece and it is the correct format and quality, you are ready to distribute it to Rdio. I used Tunecore to distribute my song you can use others but if you need help I may not be able to guide you as I don't know their processes, I would just stick with this if you aren't sure. It is free to sign up to Tunecore and you can go there and have a read if you like but basically you need them to send your song to the streaming site you can not upload direct to Rdio. It costs $9.99USD to upload a single song below 10min in length, it is important not to choose to upload a ringtone even though it is cheaper, that will not distribute correctly. You will need to go through the process of setting up your single to upload - picking artwork (which they can provide free) naming the song and picking the distribution dates (use the date you sign up). So just follow through what they say and create a random song name or be creative if you like, you will see UPC and IRSC codes you don't need to worry about that they will add it to the song when you upload it. again if you have questions let me know. Now that is all ready to go, keep following the process to upload it and pay them. it will take around 5 days for it to be distributed. you can create a free Rdio account for now to check if it has been uploaded to their system and once it has you are basically ready to set up your artist programme. Go to bandpage dot com and sign up free, create your "Band page" you need this to complete the process of the artist programme. just make it pretty basic you don't have to go all out legit, just follow what steps you can to fill in a percentage of the complete bandpage. once this is done search in google rdio artist programme and click join artist programme, enter in what details you can and for the "official website" here is where you will use your bandpage. once this is done submit it and wait a day or so for them to get back to you. they will email you saying you need to confirm your artist page/song by verifying it on the official website. They give you an option of verifying through twitter but forget that and follow the steps it gives if you don't have a twitter account, they give a link to their press page and ask to upload an image from their page to your official website (the bandpage one) follow the link to the press page download the png image (I used the Rdio Logo image) and upload it to the image section of your bandpage site. once this is done email them back saying it is done and paste in your bandpage url You will get a success email back in a day or so with the details and you will now have a free Rdio subscription! I know it is a bit of a process for something you can most likely already download for free but hey if you are one of those free spotify users that is sick of ads then this might be for you. Good luck and enjoy, if you need any help please let me know! Thanks.
