Flipping domains business idea. Need Advice...

Hey there black hat family. I have a business idea and wanted yalls opinion.

I am thinking about finding local business that do not have their domain names registered, buying it, and selling it to the owner for a profit.

My problem is...

if they havent bought their domain name already, maybe they dont want a website for their business in the first place.

I am thinking of buying their domain and trying to sell them on the importance of having a website, and the importance of branding.

Do you think a business model like this can work? I already found like 7 businesses in my area that have their business name availble as a domain.

Would love to hear your opinion! Thanks for reading

I would not buy the domain, but reach out and tell them it is available and explain the negatives of not buying it.

Then perhaps an affiliate link to godaddy or whomever for them to buy it.

The reason i would do it that way is that it builds trust and costs you $0.

Then those that buy you reach back out to and now explain the benefits to building out the site. As they invested in the domain name, not you, they have made a small financial commitment and are more likely to want to do something with it.

Call them offer them website dev package with addons or whatever.
There response will tell you if they are interested or not.
I generally offer those who aren't interested a completely free website package with a share in the profits OR just offer them a pay per lead/sale offer.
The website, domain , hosting is all mine and so I also have access to the data and backend.
Very similar to Rank & Rent model.
 
I agree with Gringomonkey. Been trying this myself and it was not received well when I tried outbound sales with those domain names. Especially if the domain names are very specific and they can tell you registered them just so you can sell them to them.
 
What about trademark? Have you considered the option when you will have to argue with trade mark owner regarding the domain name? It is a risk.
You'd better sell them an idea of having their own web sites and provide turnkey solutions for them: domain, web site development and web hosting. You can earn commissions.
Selling bare domains is to buyers which are in your "trap" will have mostly negative feedback.
 
I used to buy dropping domains that had really good business Names. For example (CleaningNameofCity.com) Then approach business that had a domain that wasn't as good as the one I registered and sell it for a quick $100+ profit.
 
in order to work you need a lot of capital in order to be able to buy domains and wait until you re able to sell it

This is a good approach. Not just business, but even personal names. If you have huge database of professionals or freelancers, mass mailing with godaddy affiliates can be good :)
 
The idea sounds good for local businesses where you can personally know them and convince to buy the domain name you already secured for them. But what about scalability of this business? How would you find and convince international (or even businesses in another city or state for the sake of argument) about their website needs?

Another important point to consider is, you need to initially invest a lot of money buying those domain names. There is always a risk of them being unsold if the prospect client decides to buy another similar fresh domain name instead of yours!

Just do your own market research, I mean you should know if they create a website will help their business to grow up, and if the being on the internet will help them or not....
