Hi everyone, I am writing this post because I plan to buy one or two websites on flippa in the near future with the aim of creating recurring passive income. Since I am a beginner in this environment I would like to know if some of you have any advice to give me in relation to this business? For example, should the site be maintained, even if it is already working well? How to go about it, etc? I think it's really a good buiseness which doesn't require a lot of experience either, since the site you buy already has its traffic and it is a customer. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Do not buy from Flippa. Most of the sites there are fake, created to lure and scam just people like you. There are several reputable companies that can help you with that, like Empire flippers. Without competent help, you will just burn your money.

I think the first thing to keep in mind, people usually don't sell profitable businesses. If it's generating any profit, it's likely going down, and they're trying to get out for some reason. Just think about it, if you have websites that make you money every month, are you going to sell them?

Whatever you buy is likely going to need some work, if not a lot of work, unless you find the golden ticket business where it's something like "Well, pops used to run this business but he died and his kids are already doctors and lawyers so they don't want the business". That's about the only reason people sell a profitable business, the vast majority on Flippa are almost scams. You'll get what you ordered most the time, but the guy is just copying the website over and over, doing a bit of black hat to get traffic, and then tossing the site on Flippa because it's not really making money.

This is not true, even the slightest. People sell profitable, growing businesses all the time, for various reasons, including but not limited to:
Greediness - $20k now are better than $1k each month for 2 years. Google update can kill the website like tomorrow. 20-25x your monthly earning? Many people will get them any day.
Lack of interest - if your website become a chore to you and you are getting tired even of the thought of working on it.. a nice amount of money is very good motivator to sell it.
Other business ideas - If you have 10 more business ideas you want to start and selling this business will fund them - why not?

I have personally witnessed sells because of each of those reasons.

You should probably note that I said usually, and I even gave possible reasons for selling a profitable site. If you want to have a conversation, we can have a conversation, but quote my entire post not just the tiny sliver that aligns with your motives if taken out of context.

There are websites built specifically to sell them on Flippa, maybe with bad or duplicate content... But how can you know that Empire Flippers or other marketplace are different?

If your going to use Flippa for anything, use it to study niches, projected income, maybe ask questions, treat it like a journey thread.

Yes, you need to know how to maintain a site you buy then want to flip. However, I suppose you could not know anything about the html write-up and just improve the seo to increase its value.

I read different sayings in this thread and I must say that in any business there are dark and light sides. For example, I have already learned to distinguish 99% of which sites are bringing in and will bring in income in future, and which will soon go down. In any case, always be careful and check each site very carefully before buying.

My personal experience is that Empire flippers is better in quality. Read more for few weeks and ask a lot of questions to seller. Otherwise, you may end up buying a sub-par listing

You can absolutely find a profitable online business on Flippa. Like others have mentioned, you have to take time to sift through the garbage. You have to do what I call "investigative due diligence." For instance, I saw a guy selling a website and he claimed to have no advertising cost. He claimed that he used social media and would give out free products in exchange for a review. I emailed some of those social influencers and it turns out they charge money for product showcasing. I mean that is just a little lie and can be used as negotiating the deal. My point is that you need to really take time to do analysis of each business.

On the flip side (haha), I've sold a affiliate business on Flippa for $xxxx. I sold it because I was super bored of it and just wanted to get it out of my hands and make a quick buck. The new owner is probably raking in that amount per month now, as I see their rankings have risen.

You can also use Flippa as validation of a business that works. Currently I'm coping the exact business model of a guy who sold his site for low six-figures. I'm about two months and have reached $2k in sales (still red but moving forward, nonetheless).

Bought once.
NEVER AGAIN!

They faked the analytics like crazy!
Lost 2k USD!

I sold many of my streaming sites that i don't use on flippa back then, but now they have some strict policy and don't allow is there any other website that can accept websites from "gray zone" ?

I have been watching flippa for years. The only thing I can say is any suitable websites that I have marked for purchase are out of business shortly after their purchase

I even don't deal with such a big website yet that allows users to buy/sell websites. If you want to buy/sell and looking for a decent marketplace then BuySellEmpire is the best option. The better thing is they only charge a 5% commission on the total price. Besides, BuySellEmpire is faster than other vendors. If they aren't able to provide any offer within 30 days of time users don't have to pay anything.

In this sense, I prefer BuySellEmpire a lot.

I agree with you, and to OP, please just make sure you have a good plan for a site before buying

Flippa can be very good but you have to control a lot of stuff before buying something

I would recommend signing up for the Website Flip newsletter. Its stuffed with affiliate links but his analysis is pretty good overall. I think it's a good place to start.

I like Flippa for buying sites. I have very specific criteria that I look for so very few sites actually meet that criteria. But there are a lot of sites that are poorly monetized or not monetized at all. If you have access to a premium ad provider like mediavine or even ezoic for that matter, you can easily increase the revenue of any site that's monetized with Adsense. So it's a quick win.
