"File sharing re-imagined for the social age" - Requesting feedback

I want to gather some initial feedback on an idea I had for a new social file-sharing app. Think Instagram, but for all types of files. I would be developing this primarily on my own.

I feel I have thought about all the potential pitfalls I might face, but it's always good to get second opinions. I don't want to waste my time, only to be swiftly outdone by Facebook, if I don't get it right.

I feel viruses would spread like wildfire.

Well it would be an iOS and web app, so it would be a sandboxed environment.

Nope, it is still in the idea and feedback phase. as you can see, you were the first to respond to this thread. I figured this community would be more active when I decided to join, but apparently not haha

Nice work, but there is something that came into my mind and made some questions about the whole idea, As you said that's the app will be running in sandboxes only environments but you must make sure there are no storage leaks and all of the endpoints should be extremely SAFE.
You might need some money to keep it running (cause having a place which people can use as storage usually costs a bunch of money), In my opinion, you should try to find a good business model and getting an investor will help you to grow.
By the way, I've found your idea interesting and willing to help you, as a hobby frontend developer (I've got a little knowledge in IOS app development also if it's required)

Not sure if you quite found the right crowd by posting here. There is quite a mixed crowd here on BHW.

As far as the idea is concerned, being that you're from FL I would say the legal side might be challenging, but I don't know that much.
I'm a developer so my initial concern was also security risks from runaway users uploading all sorts of things, but there are tools to prevent random abuse. You could block 99% of threats, the real problem is that 1% that remains.

You also would need lots of resources for storing the data. Nothing cloud services like aws/azure couldn't do, but they would be expensive.

Anyway, the idea isn't bad at all, but you might need to work on the pitch a little. Keep working hard at it

If girlie girl or wonderboy wants to share ego images, she/he uses FB & IG
If whatever gender want to share whatever files public, they use GDrive
If dev boy wants to share repo, he use Github

So I'm wondering what kind of problem you are solving here... I mean a painful problem...

That being said, maybe you are into something, but I believe original idea may need a twist and clear money making strategy...

Any significant advancements since december 2017 ?
