I am the admin of one of the sites listed in the lawsuit https://torrentfreak.com/anti-piracy-lawyer-sues-torrent-sites-for-yts-trademark-infringement-200521/.
Being relatively new to this thing, could you guys please advice on what I can do about this?
Yes they can link it to meDid you get the domain with your real personal info? Can they link your server details/payments directly to you? Did you use VCC or your real personal paypal account?
As a student, It was just a side project. Never thought it would get such attention. I am not a US citizen.WTH did you open a freaking Torrent Site with your real info mate. They hunted the biggest torrent guys that make millions of dollars a year for this. Just close the damn site and get a good lawyer? Do you live in USA?
Thank you for your advice good sir. But the firm suing me only has the trademark in US. Can't I just settle with them for the trademark rights? It is good that you are not from US. Still they will reach you. I got a trademark issue from Marlboro (iqos) and few other brands and they found me in Turkey but of course i used fake name and VCC's. So i just closed the site and nothing happened. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD CLOSE THE SITE ASAPPPP. And hope they won't hunt you after the site is gone.
I really don't know how you can settle this. I never took the risk and just closed the sites even though i was making very good money with them.Thank you for your advice good sir. But the firm suing me only has the trademark in US. Can't I just settle with them for the trademark rights?
Never accept an settlement, they will just find out who you are and then they can easily start a legal battle. As it is right now i would suggest to just close the website for some time and see what happens. They have offered for a settlement, but only for trademark. What guarantee do I have that they wont file a lawsuit for something else again if I settle?
Can they take down the domain internationally? That doesnt look a good case of trademark infringement. even If you was in US the chance of getting into trouble was slim, That company has registered the trademark for sole purpose of suing website that is using that name.
in your case since you are not a us citizen nothing will happen.
We can always use bitcoin to settle. Like popcorn time https://torrentfreak.com/anti-piracy-lawyer-offers-to-withdraw-twitter-complaint-against-popcorn-time-200426/Never accept an settlement, they will just find out who you are and then they can easily start a legal battle. As it is right now i would suggest to just close the website for some time and see what happens.
Then again, the moment you meet them face to face that is your end.
