Facebook Groups vs Facebook Pages

Hey guys,
Have some (basic and some not so basic) questions about Facebook Groups vs Pages.

1) When adding friends to a group they don't need to accept an invitation they are already added correct?

2) As a group admin, when you post, ALL members of the group get a Facebook notification linking to the post? AND also ALL members see the post in their newsfeed? Or is it just one or the other?

3) Is there a max number of members you can have in a group? And is there a max number of members you can have in a group before notifications/updates in news feed stop going to them, or other functionality becomes limited?

From my understanding only 15% of people who like a fan page, see the most recent post from the fan page. Is that accurate? That seems insane. And if it is true wouldn't it just be much smarter to get all these fans to join a group instead? (Unless there are limits to members and post options etc.)

If anyone can answer or knows the ins and outs of groups vs pages I think it would help noobs like me out a ton. Appreciate your time

1. YES.
Remember that if you add many people to a group, some (usually very little) of them will get mad, since you didn't ask for their permission.

2. NO and NO.
People that have the notifications for that groups set to "off" will NOT get notifications.
And only a small % of people will see the group's posts in their news feed.
And both answers do not change whether the group admin posted or a group member posted.

3. Is there a max number of members you can have in a group?
NO. You can see groups with very large numbers.
And is there a max number of members you can have in a group before notifications/updates in news feed stop going to them, or other functionality becomes limited?
YES. 250 members.
After that, things get worse

You are optimistic. The average is now 6%. Some people get a higher % (mostly) because they have more likes/comments/shares on their posts.


wouldn't it just be much smarter to get all these fans to join a group
You can only invite your friends to a group, and you can only have 5,000 friends... So to build a large group you either need to ask other group members to invite their friends too (not likely to happen in large numbers) or use more accounts that you have, so each account will get you 5k more...

Awesome! Good Info. Just one more question. As far as the notifications go, isnt that the default setting? So once someone is added to a group they will receive a notification the next time a post is made in the group right? Its up to them to go and deselect the notifications option?

Don't add them without their permission they can report your page and bring you to begin.

It's the default for SMALL groups (<250). That's why I said After that, things get worse

Large groups have a few settings: All posts, Friends' posts, Highlights, Off. And the default is usually Friends' posts.
So if YOU post, and these are your friends (some of them probably are, since you added your 5k to the group), they are more likely to see the posts. But once the groups gets really large, most of the members are NOT your friends, so that won't help.

And if you think that all people will leave the default on (in both cases: small/large groups), then consider this:

1. Most people only have a few groups they're in. Not all people are into black-hat, so they don't need more then 10-30 groups. So it's easier for them to change the default (or to leave the group). Unlike you. You want to join the max 6,000 groups, and then if someone adds to you his group, sometimes you won't even notice that (although there are bots that can help you take care of that).

2. FB helps people. Since they let you add them to groups without asking them, when the person goes into the group for the first time (or times), they will get a special notice above the group's cover photo, reminding them that you added them, and letting them choose if they want to leave the group. So it's easy for them to leave.

Bottom line? Groups are great. But you need a lot of them, some with large numbers of members and some with small numbers.
