Facebook getting into the search industry?

Facebook is already resident in the annals of history

A true 2012 yesterday man...

Not just that bro... I know FB will be more than that...
Microsoft behind them, so Bing will support their engine...
Their have many CDN workings worldwide, I imagine about [email protected]
Their can send many SMS within seconds, I imagine about Carrier Provider
Their already has Video Call, I imagine about Branded Device & many stuff...
We can upload some money to their ads services, so no problem if their can beat PayPal
Every news I heard about "FB will be down", I marking just HOAX news...

Can be king because what I see on FB now is many different than others...
Like this 1 : Try upload copyright photo, you can see who's owner of that photo...
Instagram Engine already put on their system... Check quality of your picture after uploaded even trough cheap mobile phone... :D

Personally, I think it will be a bust, like their IPO.

The average user doesn't think of Facebook as a search engine. Facebook is merely a fade.

Would Facebook make it part of their social network and remove Bing, or will Facebook have a stand alone search engine? It's speculation at this point.

Regardless, Facebook will have to overcome that MAJOR obstacle that Microsoft has tried to. Users unconsciously search using Google. It is next to impossible to break that habit. It is hard wired into your mind. Microsoft knows this, that's why they've dumped a lot of money in advertising.

I personally don't think Facebook can. Sure, they may take some of the search share, but not much I suspect. I think only Google can dethrone Google from being search king.

Zuckerberg hinted at getting to the search engine industry.

What are your thoughts?

Could Facebook dethrone Google as search king?

I think it would be a wise move.

People spend a lot of time on Facebook and if you could include search into the mix users wouldn't have to leave Facebook to find what they wanted.

It has just became the #1 site in Alexa over Google as well which I assumes mean the Facebook search box gets more impressions than the Google search box.

There is a very big picture and I'm sure Mark is all over it :)

The average person doesn't use Facebook as a search engine. Most people are on Facebook for friends and family, and if they want to search, "usually" go to Google.

If Facebook search tab was so successful, then, Bing's market share should be A LOT more than what it is.

Maybe Facebook will clutter the users walls more with suggestive searches. lol That would be awful.

Hi Ryan,

Your right, the average person doesn't use Facebook as a search engine - because it is not yet a search engine.

When you are the #1 site in the world in terms of traffic though, you can position yourself in any way you want and with a few design tweaks here and there they could soon give Google a kick up the rear

was waiting for this since months.

hopefully it gets off the ground soon.

facebook is not #1 in traffic. Don't forget Google uses a lot of country domains, so all of these combined makes Google #1

Everything that is competition to Googles monopoly position is very welcome.

Valid point!

Regardless, any new search engine is going to have to go against psychological habits. They are tough to break. Microsoft knows this, that is, in my opinion why Bing isn't a bigger player. I think Bing is better.

It will be more interesting if it is a stand alone search engine or not. Faceboogle. lol

Zuckerberg will earn even more $$$ this way, I'm sure. I don't think Google will get competition though!

They have to make their own browser first, include the search there and add an extra search-field or switch between FBsearch and search engine on facebook...
Like it is now search results are at the bottom - and noone cares...

Facebook with its own browser will be a failure.

Facebook itself is buggy. Half the time shit doesn't load or work properly. No one is going to use a browser that is buggy as hell. Facebook needs to fix what they already have before branching out.

IE is buggy, and look where that go them. Most people use firefox, chrome and safari.

On that case, This section of BHW would be the most popular section.
There will be two child sections also.

Haha bring it on =D

Facebook also have a wealth of social data that they could integrate into their algo's - you know like Google are trying to do with Google+ but failing ^^
