I would just like to preface this by saying I'm not new to digital marketing, I've been doing this for 5-6 years now.

I've been mainly successful with social media and helping companies grow their brand and reach. That being said its seemed over the last few weeks organic reach from pages has drastically declined, clients I worked with 6 months ago have seen up to a 90% decline in engagement and reach. Seems to be related to a specific niche for the most part. Also none of these brands were built using black hat methods.

What I wanted to do here was get a conversation started around if others have had this issue if so how long has it been going on for, just trying to get more information in general on thoughts of best ways to go from here. Any feedback is appreciated!

    Thanks!

I have noticed it in the last month as well - HUGE decline. Funny, because I would say it started 6-7 months ago for me as well and slowly declining every month. I'm not really sure where Facebook is headed with this other than the gutter. Facebook is so censored now it might as well be Fox News. I don't have an answer. I'm just here to comment that it's definitely a real thing and affecting a lot of people right now. A post that would have had an organic reach of 1000 a few months ago might hit 30 now. Pretty sad. I've done quite a bit of FB ad campaigns as well myself, but always found the group engagement just as rewarding. Though it seems that Facebook is doing everything in their power to control everything that people see on their feeds.

I think there're some changes on Facebook reach algorithms, in the past few years when I posted a post (text posts, image posts or even link posts), the reach rate usually from 10% - 30% and the engagement rate usually from at least 5% on the total fans. But now that factor is very very low, it usually <1% on engagement and <5% on reach. I think the reason is their algorithms, they want us to spend more money on FB Ads in order to get reach and engagement, they're not delivery free for us anymore.

I appreciate your guy's feedback, it seems from an organic standpoint its time to really move away from Facebook and focus on something else, the only other thing I can think to do to get engagement higher or at least back where it use to be is to maybe talk to other Facebook Pages, and Groups that are having the same issues and start sharing each others content. What do you guys think?

    Thanks

Yeah well that being said as long as they are putting out the ad or the post for people to see it then its really up to us to get them to engage heavily, my main concern is the reach and engagement alot of my client's pages are now getting is significantly lower.

Engagement is the number of likes, shares, and/or comments on a post.

Agreed. Even my ad campaigns aren't getting the engagement that they used to. That's why I don't understand Facebook's direction with all of this.

I'm guessing you have some type of auto poster running?

Please don't spam my inbox. Thanks.

I wouldn't say I really have an autoposter, other than using hootsuite or buffer to have them schedule out, I write the copy for all of my posts.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you. That was directed at "Mark Da" who I had quoted, but his post was clearly deleted. He sent me an random spam message to my inbox as well.

No reach issues lately. My reach per campaign over couple of last days:

    Spectacle.Lh6942.png

and actual actions (clicks, likes whatever):

    Spectacle.nS7949.png

spikes are due to changes to the budget, variations between days due to targeting changes, zero values due to some server issues on my side.

I've just started with FB 2 weeks ago though, so far the most confusing is how pacing works...

Do you mind sharing what program/tool you are using from your screenshot?

And just for lolz, my hourly spend rate per campaign. It goes down due to the fact i learn how to optimize my stuff.

The graphing tool is grafana, back-end is graphite, data feeding (fb -> graphite) is a custom server app written in Java. The latter took like ~8 hours, mostly to work around FB throttling limits. I already had grafana/graphite infrastructure in place, otherwise would've taken 8 hours more to set that up properly.

Currently I get about 500 data points per day compared to 1 per day in official FB stats. I mostly use it to evaluate what adset "has no chance". Due to how FB pacing works it's not obvious immediately and it's not obvious just by looking at daily averages (hense the tool):

    Spectacle.Lh9227.png

this is cumulative CPC per adset. The fact the graph smoothens with time is natural. Apparently the blue one is twice shittier than the rest, but the important fact here is that it's consistently worse than others which is often not the case. Conclusion, disable blue adset and re-distribute its budget into green or/and yellow.

This is going seriously off-topic though :))

I am new to FB marketing. I have a fan page with 4.5k likes, yet when I post it only reaches about 300. I was going to post a new thread asking why it doesn't reach all 4.5k but I guess this thread answers my question. I only reach about 1k even when I pay for ads. It seems to me that the whole point of a fan page is being negated by FB. If you're a fan of someone, you want to know when that someone makes a post, otherwise, what's the point in being a fan?

So my thoughts are: I notice that if you are in a FB group, everybody is notified of everything, even by email too. So if I created a FB Group that was more or less a mirror image of the fan page, then made each fan a member, would that work?
