As social media marketers, the tools we use are constantly changing. Whether it’s the type of ads we have at our disposal, or how we measure our performance, it’s only natural that newer tools will be introduced and older ones will be replaced.

This can be both exciting and frustrating. On the one hand, gaining access to new ways to promote your business, product, or service is great. Each ad type brings with it unique benefits that could open up new opportunities.

But on the other hand, it’s always sad to see the tools we love to go away. It doesn’t matter if they’re replaced by something better. We grow accustomed to certain apps and become familiar with how they work. Even though the new thing might be better it takes time to become comfortable with it.

As I’ve talked about many times before, succeeding in this industry is all about adapting. It’s tempting to complain every time things change. But your best strategy is to just roll with the punches.

With this in mind, this week we’ll discuss how Facebook Analytics will be discontinued, the introduction of dynamic ads for video streaming platforms, and how you can use personalized ads to help people find your business.

Facebook Analytics is No More

Starting on June 30th, 2021, users will no longer have access to Facebook Analytics. If you’ve accessed this tool in the last week you’ve likely been greeted by this message:

“Facebook Analytics will no longer be available after June 30, 2021. Until then, you will still be able to access reports, export charts and tables, and explore insights. To export data into a CSV file from Facebook Analytics on your desktop, click the arrow in the top-right corner of each chart or table.”

The move seems a little odd, and Facebook doesn’t give a reason for the sudden decision. Instead, they simply point marketers to their other business tools: Facebook Business Suite, Ads Manager, and Event Manager.

As many users depend on Facebook Analytics to measure conversion data, this is rather short notice and Marketers will have little time to adapt. That being said, by utilizing a combination of all the tools listed above you should be able to access all the same insights that you did with Analytics.

Facebook seems to intend for Business Suite to become the one tool businesses use to measure their analytics. Unfortunately, it’s only available to small businesses so if that doesn’t apply to you you’ll have to rely on Ads Manager.

My advice to marketers is to start transitioning to the other tools now. That way, when Analytics is shut off you won’t miss a beat.

New Dynamic Ads for Video Streaming Platforms

If you run or work for a video streaming platform then you now have a new way to promote your content. Facebook is launching dynamic ads specifically for streaming services.

Here’s the announcement from Facebook:

"With Dynamic Ads for Streaming, when people see an ad for your service in their feed, they can swipe through the ad to see personalized, relevant titles they might be interested in, based on interests they’ve shown on Facebook and Instagram. Audiences can also follow your call to action to start a trial or subscribe."

Streaming platforms can now add the titles of their content during the campaign set-up process. Facebook will then use this list to target users who have expressed interest in those shows, whether that be by liking a page for the show, a fan page for one of the stars, or being a member of a related group.

This new offering is very niche, however, this is just the latest in a long line of dynamic ad offerings from Facebook. There are a number of other types of dynamic ads that apply to many other businesses.

So, if the concept sounds interesting to you I would definitely look into it and see if there are any options that apply to your business or clients.

Learn How to Personalize Your Ads to Drive Better Results

Creating personalized ad campaigns that appeal to your ideal audience is one of the keys to finding success on Facebook. For example, you don’t want to target people over 40 when your target market is people in their 20s. You also want to make sure your ad creative appeals to the demographics you’re targeting.

This is why Facebook’s personalized ad tools are so valuable to marketers. Once you learn how to use them correctly you can make sure your ads are only shown to people who are most likely to be interested in your products and services.

If you’re not familiar with these tools you’re in luck. Facebook has just released three courses that will walk you through how to create personalized ads so you can maximize your marketing dollars:

  • How to Leverage Dynamic Ads: As we just discussed, these ads help you target people who have expressed interest in your products. Learn how to leverage these ads to deliver the right message to the right person at the right time.
  • Ways to Define Your Audience in Ads Manager: Proper targeting is one of the most important parts of creating an effective campaign. Learn how to create the right advertising audiences for your brand.
  • Tips for Customizing Your Ad Creative: Your creative will look different depending on where it’s placed. Learn how to select the ad formats that work best with your business goals.
Each course is just 20 - 30 minutes long and packed with valuable knowledge, so I highly recommend them.

Well, that’s everything I have for you this week. Join us again next week for more Facebook Ads news and updates!
